Sookie Stackhouse

I wouldn't leave a review until I finished all 9 books. And I am happy to say I loved every one of them, I couldn't wait to download the next. If you have started watching the True Blood series on HBO this is not the same. This is much better. Hands down the most entertaining series I've listened to in a long time.

Funny and Clever

I know what you're thinking: "oh no, not another vampire book." But this one is different. It is a bit tongue in cheek and there is a lot of humor in the book. It is told in first-person narrative by a southern waitress who is lonely has trouble connecting with other humans. The narration is superb and sometimes it really feels like you are listening to a real Sookie Stackhouse speaking to you. I'm in the middle of the second book in the series and it is even better than this one. Give it a try and you'll be glad you did.

Very good story with quite a bit of romance

Thoroughly enjoyable, fast and easy fiction about vampires, love, lust, murder, loss and discrimination. Pretty much all the bases are touched here.

If you're looking for a "thinking" novel, this ain't it. If you're looking for light entertainment that will make you smile and might make you blush a bit (sexual content), this is it.

I have never seen the show that is based on this series so can't speak to how similar it is, but, even though it's the first book in a series, it is self-contained and the story is concluded satisfactorily. I'm already downloading the next in the series.

The narrator is excellent - her characters are distinct, her accent is great for the locale, she doesn't overdramatize and she does a decent job of male voicing.

In some ways it's similar to Charlie Huston's No Dominion - vampire fiction meant for adults - but Harris' story has quite a significant "romantic" thread in it.

Good series

Good read. Some differences from show I wasn't expecting, but that is usually the case. I didn't realize there were books until after I watched the series. It was an easy listen.

Plot in line with series

Based on a preview of the second book that is included at the end of the first, the books may diverge more from the HBO series as they advance. I have watched and enjoyed True Blood and I thought the books might contain depth as novels often do. This book was so close to the series, that I was kind of bored. It was enjoyable but not sure I will invest in the rest of the books.

I'm just a fan of Charlaine.

My 2nd time reading and listening. Just as good the 2nd time around.
I love her character development.

Love Sookie!

I absolutely love the characters and the plot in the series. I just finished the 3rd book and I'm upset the 4th book isn't aval. yet on audiobook (although 5-8 are already out. How does that work?). Either way, I'm waiting patiently so I can move foward with the series.

Great accent!

The narrator really added depth to the story by speaking with the intended accent of the characters. The story was excellent. There are a few cuss words and sex scenes but nothing absolutely horrible like the tv show True Blood has. I was so hesitant to read this book because the tv show was so raunchy but the book was great. Can't wait to read the next one.

Wonderful narrator!

I am a big fan of this entire series. I have read them all at least twice, so I have pretty set ideas of how the characters should be and how they should sound. The narrator in this recording does a wonderful job. Her reading has lots of nuance and I think it is really how Sookie would sound. She also does a great job with the other voices and it is easy to tell when she switches characters.

I will be buying the entire series on audio.
