About this listen

My name is Freya Wilson. I am not your typical girl next door. I'm far from it.

As my mother likes to point out since I graduated high school, I should be planning my life instead of wallowing around the house in my pajamas all day. Girls my age are either preparing for college or taking advantage of the warm summer days that California provides in spades. She doesn't understand why I prefer to be stuck in my room, watching the world pass by.

But there is a reason to my melancholy that she will never know. I'm in mourning. I morn a love I can never have. A love that if anyone were to learn about its existence, I would be judged and ridiculed, branded with names too ugly to mention. Years ago, I had made the ultimate sacrifice, so no one would discover my secret. However, now my secret is being put to the test. I will need to overcome one last obstacle.

When fate brings me to live under the same roof temptation lies, I fear I might not be strong enough to hide my feelings. The moment I set foot inside it, my life takes an unexpected turn, and the vision I once had of eternal solitude seems out of reach. The chains I have weaved around me are no match for the allurement the house next door provides.

There is no running away from love, and I was a fool to think otherwise.

Contains mature themes.

Loved the story

loved it but the female narrator wasn't that good
very annoying. I did enjoy the male narrator.

Summer fun with the Perry Boys!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Romance: 💙💚🖤
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘
World building: 🌎🌍🌏🌎
Character development: 😭😖😔

The heroine: Freya (a.k.a. Princess) - she grew up next door to the Perry family, who had 5 boys, all within a period of 4-5 years, all of which are the same age or just older than her. She grew up at the Perry house, played at their pool, had sleepovers with the boys. However, after she hit puberty, she backed off from those friendships and kept to herself because she couldn’t understand her feelings for all of them and was ashamed.

The Heroes: Mason, Tyler, Drew, Carter, Chaz (a.k.a. the boys next door) - They treated Freya like a princess and called her that as well. They were her five knights who protected her. Yet when she backed away from them, they all got angry with her since they didn’t understand what she was doing. Yet they went on with their lives, grew up and a few went away to college, but always came back on the weekends.

The Story: When Freya’s parents and the Perry’s parents go off on a monthlong summer cruise, they suggest Freya stay next door with the boys because there have been some break-ins in the neighborhood and they wanted her to be safe. Freya wasn’t treated well at first by the guys, but it wasn’t long before things started getting steamy between her and the twins, then her and Drew, then her and Mason and Tyler.

I read this book about 5 years ago and really liked it, but I guess my tastes have changed a bit since then. It is good for a super-steamy reverse harem, but there isn’t any story other than the relationship (and relations) between Freya and the guys. Also the way she starts giving up on them before the parents even get back was pretty weak.

The book was told in multiple points of view in dual narration and was narrated by Stephanie Rose and Aaron Shedlock. Stephanie Rose has a nice voice, but her reading was like reading out loud, not voice acting. By that I mean it seemed stilted and not like someone speaking normally. I guess I didn’t like the cadence. Though Aaron Shedlock did a great job and I like his voice a lot. Overall the book was OK but not awesome.

Decent, short, spicy

It's definitely not some creative, amazing story, however it's good enough and the spice is good enough to get you to the end. Plus i could listen to the male narrator read the phonebook lol. definitely see why it's "included"

So unexpected!@

I tried to listen to this book without any pre judgmental ideas and reactions. Surprisingly I actually liked this book, considering the sensitive and the sensual subject matter and all that goes with it.
I really didn't know what to expect and can say the way this book was written, the author conveyed some emotions by Freya our heroine, and by the five brothers that shook me and kept me very interested in this story. There was some unexpected darkness that shocked me but overall I am looking forward to the next book in this series.
Very different book with very mature theme.
Aaron Shedlock did a fantastic job narrating the 5 brothers and while Stephanie Rose is new to me I thought she narrated Freya with full emotional depth. The author took a chance and I think this book deserves consideration.

More 3.5

It's a good story, I just wish it was a little more developed I feel like it ended just when the relationships started and you didn't really get a chance to see it all work. Narration was done well and it's a pretty quick listen.

Believable plot

Enjoyed everything about this book. The plot had all the elements, it was easy to follow, believable, and the story was short.

Amazing

I think I wrote a review of the kindle version of this book in response to people’s reaction to the way the harem treats the protagonist, but I want to write again to reiterate that this is a fantastic book. One thing that I found missing when I started reading reverse harem was what the “real world” would think of those involved in this type of relationship (potentially because I also began reading this genre combined with paranormal). This is one of the things I love about this book: the author isn’t afraid to show fears and doubts and the effect living in society could have on those in a harem. The emotion conveyed by all the characters, as well as providing unique qualities and characteristics to each of the five brothers is something I applaud the author for.

As for the audio book, I bought it the second I saw it existed even without listening to the sample. Both narrators are fantastic, reminding me of other narrators I enjoy, such as Andi Arndt, Joe Arden, Josh Goodman, Angela Goethals, etc. Aaron Shedlock does an amazing job at providing all five brothers their own voices, and Stephanie Rose as Freya presents her as conflicted and unsure without sounding weak.

If it weren’t clear already, I highly recommend this book, both in eBook and Audible versions.
