About this listen

From New York Times best-selling author, Penelope Douglas, comes a new stand-alone!

Three of them, one of her, and a remote cabin in the woods. Let the hot winter nights ensue....

Tiernan de Haas doesn’t care about anything anymore. The only child of a film producer and his starlet wife, she’s grown up with wealth and privilege but not love or guidance. Shipped off to boarding schools from an early age, it was still impossible to escape the loneliness and carve out a life of her own. The shadow of her parents’ fame followed her everywhere.

And when they suddenly pass away, she knows she should be devastated. But has anything really changed? She’s always been alone, hasn’t she?

Jake Van der Berg, her father’s stepbrother and her only living relative, assumes guardianship of Tiernan who is still two months shy of 18. Sent to live with him and his two sons, Noah and Kaleb, in the mountains of Colorado, Tiernan soon learns that these men now have a say in what she chooses to care and not care about anymore.

As the three of them take her under their wing, teach her to work and survive in the remote woods far away from the rest of the world, she slowly finds her place among them.

And as a part of them.

She also realizes that lines blur and rules become easy to break when no one else is watching.

One of them has her.

The other one wants her.

But he....

He’s going to keep her.

I LOVE Penelope Douglas!

I just love Penelope’s books. Her stories always push the limits and help me remember how real life and emotions impact everything we choose. The depth of her character development is outstanding and always keeps me wanting more. If I had the time to read this one, I would have. The narrators, especially the males were not great. The narrator chosen for Jake sounded like he was commentating a race or fast paced competition. It was overkill and ruined Jake’s character for me.

Taboos aren't for everyone.

I love Penelope Douglas. I enjoyed the book. It was not a wasted purchase. If you have issues with barely turning 18 girl, age gap, and step relationships this probably isn't the book for you.

Each character had some growing to do. There was good character growth and development throughout the story. This is not a menage where the girl ends up in a relationship with all the guys and they are all cool sharing her.. Choices and decisions are made. The book has you guessing and rooting for each of them.

Narrators did fine for the most part. Nothing that had me cringing and not wanting to listen to it. The female lead sounded sullen and depressed which fit the character at the beginning but her tone didn't really change as the story went on and the character developed. The gentleman that did Jake's voice, I just needed him to slow down. It was almost like he was speeding through it cause he had other stuff to do.

Surprised I liked this one.

Great story and an amazing ending! I love it when a book gives you satisfied closure. Some weird sexual encounters but it helps you understand the characters a lot more. Highly recommend if the sex stuff doesn't bother you.

Better than I thought it'd be

I originally only got this for smut and it actually wound up being really good with a solid story.

BUT You will never find a heroine who cries more. In absolutely no way is that overstated . When I say she cries alot, I mean literally (not in the ironic sense but actually literally) she cries, not only every chapter, but (what I'd imagine to be) every other page. I know you won't believe me. You think I'm dragging it. I am not. You could make a drinking game out of this book. "Shots everytime her eyes are "welling with tears"." You'd be well beyond toxicity level by 1/2 way through, no lie. It really brought the book down alot. Idk how the excessive crying was not corrected during any stage of publishing this book. It'd her primary reaction to evvvvvvverything.

I'm still annoyed just thinking about the absurdity of it. So much so, that "tears are welling in my eyes" because that's a perfectly understandable response to every single feeling and emotion.

I don't get the hype

I may just be missing something, but I don't understand the hype behind this book at all. The second I heard the female narrators voice I wanted to return the book. Her performance was good but the voice wasn't for me (which is a personal problem, I know lol). The male narrators were fine. There were definitely some interesting twists to the story but I truly don't understand the point of the book. With that being said, I enjoyed the ending and character development.

Not what I expected... But Surprisingly good.

I found this book to be "out of the norm" but oddly interesting and all in all a good book. Things that normally I'd view as way disturbing gave me a very opposite view. Penelope did a fantastic job at opening up my closed mind to things I wouldn't of opened up to before, but in a positive way! Good Book Penelope
