About this listen

From New York Times best-selling author, Penelope Douglas, comes a new stand-alone!

Three of them, one of her, and a remote cabin in the woods. Let the hot winter nights ensue....

Tiernan de Haas doesn’t care about anything anymore. The only child of a film producer and his starlet wife, she’s grown up with wealth and privilege but not love or guidance. Shipped off to boarding schools from an early age, it was still impossible to escape the loneliness and carve out a life of her own. The shadow of her parents’ fame followed her everywhere.

And when they suddenly pass away, she knows she should be devastated. But has anything really changed? She’s always been alone, hasn’t she?

Jake Van der Berg, her father’s stepbrother and her only living relative, assumes guardianship of Tiernan who is still two months shy of 18. Sent to live with him and his two sons, Noah and Kaleb, in the mountains of Colorado, Tiernan soon learns that these men now have a say in what she chooses to care and not care about anymore.

As the three of them take her under their wing, teach her to work and survive in the remote woods far away from the rest of the world, she slowly finds her place among them.

And as a part of them.

She also realizes that lines blur and rules become easy to break when no one else is watching.

One of them has her.

The other one wants her.

But he....

He’s going to keep her.

Taboo AF, but I couldn’t put it down!

I’ve listened to over 145 books in the past year, and this is my very first written review. I absolutely had to because I COULD NOT put this book down. It has the perfect mix of interesting storyline, complicated characters, lots and lots of sexy smut but also a love story.
Now, I will say... the whole step-uncle, step-cousin romance is dicey. You’ll either not be bothered by it or you will. There are a couple cringe worthy moments when she calls him “uncle Jake” while in the throws, but it doesn’t come close to ruining the book. I listened and read this one bc it’s on kindle unlimited. I like to have the option to switch back and forth. The only narrator I found annoying was Jake. The rest were great. Great character development and an ending perfectly wrapped up in a bow. READ THIS BOOK!!!

Story not like I thought.

It was well written. The story itself is not one that I care for. It has a HEA but how it gets there is not something I liked. She has sex with the dad then both brothers at the same time, but in the end she has a HEA with one son while the dad and brother hang out… I would have rather the 2 others be town boys instead of family. It would have made the HEA more my style.

Oh my god..what did I just read and why did it work?

This was complete insanity. Turns out I’m here for it. Super taboo plot line and flaming hot sex scenes! TW for suicide, loss of parents, cancer, neglect.

Very good!!

Really enjoyed the story and the character development. I thought the narration could’ve been better except for Caleb. He did an awesome job.

Taboo to cover for poorly written male characters

So... where do I even begin? I'm not prude by any means but this was a bit too controversial for your average reader in my opinion (I don't mind age gap or this family dynamics - all of them were damaged to some extent, also this is nothing more than just a fantasy). I just think the controversy is there to cover for not so good writing this time. Penelope Douglas doesn't shy away from taboo and if you like her writing you know what you sign up for. However if this is your first time reading her books I would recommend picking up something different from her. Also the way most male characters are written in this book is just awful. She made them into absolute animals. They lack any character.

Spoiler alert:
I wish the author decided to let Tiernan sleep with only one of the boys and their father. Or both brothers but separately if she didn't want to go the Birthday Girl route. I wish she invested more time into writing better male characters than just playing the extremely controversial card.

Holy smokes!

I’ve never experienced as many emotions as I have with this book… the performance only elevated the story and man was it hot! By far one of the best books I’ve ever read/listened to in a long time. Very well done!

heartfelt story

4 damaged people each coping in their own way. Each looking for the same thing, someone to love. They made many mistakes along the way. Penelope Douglas did a great job of unfurling the events leading to their dysfunctional lives. She told their stories in a way that the reader was sent on an emotional roller coaster feeling everything from sympathy for their situation to understanding why they blurred the lines between what is considered taboo. The narration flowed nicely and kept the reader eager for the next twist in the story. No Cliffhanger and totally wrapped up Happy ending.

Not the worst

The narration was very blah. I think the female narrator really connected with the main character's vibe but it was very slow and monotone. The men were also ok.

The story was very..... interesting. At times I was ready for it to be over because just trying to wrap my head around her sleeping and falling in love with her cousins. Even though they aren't technically blood related. It was still weird and somewhat crossed a line. The spicy scenes were amazing (but I tried really hard not to think about how it was family). I feel like any of the spicy scenes would be great in any other book.

Woah🤤

I absolutely loved Credence. If you’re looking for smutty with a half decent plot, this is the one.
