About this listen

A full-length, stand-alone romantic comedy from USA Today best-selling author R.S. Grey.

Dr. Russell has a bad reputation around our hospital. The scrub techs say he’s cold-blooded, the nurses say he’s too cocky for his own good, and the residents say he’s the best surgeon in the world - really, just a swell guy! - on the off chance he’s within earshot.

I try to avoid him and his temper at all costs. It’s just as easy to admire his sexy, grip-it-while-he’s-ravishing-you hair and chiseled jaw from a healthy distance, preferably from the other end of the hallway...half hidden behind a plant.

Unfortunately, my plan crumbles when my trusty ol’ boss decides to swap his white coat for a Hawaiian shirt. His retirement leaves me with two terrible options: Switch specialties and spend months retraining or take an open position as Dr. Russell’s surgical assistant.

That means I have to stand near him in the OR for hours on end and anticipate his every need without letting his biting words and bad attitude intimidate me. Oh, and as if that’s not difficult enough, my silly crush on him - the one I’ve tried to stomp on until it disappears - might just be reciprocated.

It’s fine. I’m fine.

I take my job seriously. There will be no smoldering bedroom eyes across the operating table, no angry almost-kisses in the supply closet. (Well, no more of those.) What’s the phrase? An apple a day keeps the doctor away? Maybe I should go for a whole damn bushel.

More than expected

Well written story, great chemistry between characters, there’s more to the story than just the attraction of 2 people, and Lee Samuels voice alone is hot, hot, hot! Bailey dreads her job changes and Matthew can’t be bothered to be nice to his surgical team. Bailey calls him out and now she has caught Matthew’s attention.

Loved it!

Absolutely loved, loved, LOVED IT! Highly entertaining and witty. Charming and engaging characters that hook you right from the beginning they are introduced. The narrators do a smashing good job of it too. Kudos to them in making them so believable and spunky. Good job everyone! Btw, I got this audiobook a while ago and have read it multiple times. It gets better every time.

sexy and fun

I really loved this book
it's the first of the author I've listened to and I can say it was worth it. there were several moments where I found myself grinning or my heart flutter. If you are looking for a good romance with a good storyline then give this one I a try.

Read worthy

This book is really awesome. I love the doctor/assistant romance theme. It really appeals to me to re-read it. I listened to it through audiobook and loved it. Definitely worth reading or listening to.

👏👏👏

I’m not familiar with medical terminology and the difficulties medical personnel go through, but it seems like Grey did some research. I like how it gives a bit of insight into the lives of the people who pretty much give up all personal time to save others.

The confession of attraction was a little fast but cute. I LOVE the narrators of all of Grey’s audiobooks that I’ve heard so far. Need more sections of the man’s POV, though. There’s pretty cute male narrators who only get like, what, 5 chapters (slight exaggeration) to read?

Bailey is definitely adorable and likable, especially her sister. From an outsider’s view, Matt is an ass, but there’s a reason why he is the way he is. There are a lot of doctors who are like him and there’s not much appreciation for the kind of work that they do, especially when surgeries aren’t “by the textbook” and it’s all about learning on the job but not having a second chance to fix it. Nurses, admin, assistants, etc. need more respect as well. Well, the good ones at least.

Wonderful job to Grey, Samuels, and Vincent! 👏

Who doesn't love a hot doc!

One of the reasons I love the audible escape package is finding new authors and narrators. Both the authors and narrators for this Hotshot Doc are new to me and I thoroughly enjoyed it! The banter was fantastic and the narration was spot on! Aubrey Vincent was truly magnificent.

Hot and hilarious!

There was so much electricity between the hot surgeon and his surgical assistant, I expected a medical error during surgery! (No, that did not happen). The hilarious banter between these enemies-to-lovers seriously had me crying while laughing. RS Grey is a new favorite author!

Cute, sure (spoilers)

Pretty decent medical romance. Only got a few things glaringly wrong (the bar is so low for accuracy/authenticity in romance novels).
Pros: I laughed, a lot. The chemistry was believable.

Cons (spoiler alert): The ending was rushed.

More importantly, I really wanted them to get together, have him take over the financial burden, and allow Bailey to finally go to medical school, or at least PA school damnit. I wanted him to love her enough to teach her to be his equal. Or I wanted the badass vascular surgeon we glimpse for a moment to take Bailey under her wing...Have Bailey become something complementary to his field. Homeboy is constantly scrambling for capable, crazy surgeons to assist him. She’s not too old to start training by a long shot. Or if not, have there be a real, character-enhancing conversation about how her goals have changed, and how having a family has become a priority, and that she is satisfied professionally.
No one keeps their premed books around if they’ve really given up on that dream.
