About this listen

Two idiots, Leonhard "Rocky" Krauss and Byron "Twig" Schlaeger, escape from a mental institution, Cedar Hill Sanitarium, and go on a murderous rampage. Rocky is a large man suffering from gigantism, and Twig is a foul-mouthed and perverted little person. Separately, they had always been mistreated and bullied, but together, they are unstoppable, unleashing sadistic and barbaric acts of violence on the assholes of society.

Warning! This is an extreme-horror/splatterpunk story that contains adult content, including, but not limited to: profanity, sexuality, brutality, and obscenities. If you're not a seasoned extreme-horror listener, it's highly advised not to embark on this journey. It will save you distress and it'll save me a negative review.

I had to take a break every once in a while to pet something furry or hear a child's laughter. Just to scrub some of the images from my brain.

Twisted and demented.. I loved it!

I couldn't stop listening to the story. The narrator did an amazing job reading the book and changing the voices with each character.

Loved it!

So my wife reads all this splatterpunk garbage. I'm a fantasy reader, I enjoy being painted a picture with each sentence, I love epic battles, swords, magic, dragons etc. I listen to audiobooks on my journey to work, my wife spoke to Wade Garrett on Facebook and managed to get a free Audible copy of this for me to try out.

I put it on and turned it off after 2 chapters. I just didn't like the way the book was written, the writing style seemed too simplistic for me.

She made me keep trying, and eventually I was pulling up into my work car park thinking 'damn, I need to hear what happens next'

I looked into Wade Garrett a little, I read an interview with him. I know now that I was too judgemental intially, the guy is a new author and even criticises his own writing style. Knowing WHY he writes his books and who he bases them on has made the world of difference for me. I have nothing but respect for the guy (he's qualified up to the eyeballs too!)

But anyway, onto the book.

Insane Bastards is a bloodbath from start to finish. The gore, the imagination, my god [SPOILER ALERT] I didn't even know you could 'invert' the male reproductive organ! Some really creepy, crazy and just downright filthy stuff is going on here. For a first timer into splatterpunk it's set the mark way too high for me and I'm afraid I'll just be comparing everyone else to Wade H. Garrett now.

My only negative is the heavy over-use of the term 'I'm gonna kill your ass'

I Didn't Want To Like It

The story is amazing, just overall an amazing book. I am completely hooked on this author now and will be listening to all of his work. That said… The narration is pretty bad. It's mainly because of the voices that he uses, a lot of them just don't work out. All of the female voices that he was doing made it hard at points to continue listening and it had nothing to do with the story whatsoever. He gave the main two characters very specific voices that actually fit well, everything else though… Just couldn't vibe with it. Not trying to dissuade anyone from reading the book, just a heads up. Again… The book is amazing, only put it down once so I could sleep, woke up and finished the other half.

Such an amazing book, but…

Great read and not for the weak. This book is like House of 1000 Corpse but on steroids. For my grindhouse horror fans, this is a novel worth. Get your barf bags ready and buckle up your seat belts because this ride has no breaks when it comes to vulgarity and I am here for it.

A grindhouse novel worth reading

When it come to writing extreme horror mixed with dar humor and politically incorrectness Wade H. Garrett does not disappoint.

The moral to the story is Don't be an ass to people who are different, look different because if you are you just might end up on the wrong end of an insane persons agenda . Rocky and Twigg are 2 guys who's life was dealt at the Cedar Hill Sanitarium and when they escaped all hell broke loose for the poor bastards who made fun of Rocky and Twigg. A mind blowing story full of gore and carnage and good old extreme horror .

A Great Book for the Extreme Horror Fan

I got a lot of laughs out of this book. But also found myself wondering what the writer was thinking. This is stuff nightmares are made of. And although I enjoyed it. I found that some of it made me want to fast foward a bit to get past it. But I listen to the whole book and even told family members to listen to it. It will make you laugh a lot. While other parts will leave you going omg that's so sick. And omg no way. What was this writer thinking when he put this into words. I would say get it listen to it. But have a very strong will to listen to it all. Because you have to really want to listen to get into the book. It is not at all for the weak. Not at all for someone who will judge but more of a sick, twisted, fun book. That will leave you wondering what the hell you just listen to.

The most twisted book I have ever listen to

I've read plenty of sick books, recently Dead Inside, The Slob series, The President's Son, Cows, but after Hogg, nothing has been able to shock me, until this book. It's relentless, but also quite well written. Unlike Hogg, this book does have tension, risk, and situations the characters can't easily get out of.

On a scale of 1 to 10, this is definitely a 10 in terms of extreme depravity. What works so well is the very over the top nature of the story, it's never downright disturbing or too unpleasant to be fun, it's shocking and gross, but so far out there, like hearing a professional telling the aristocrats joke, only this story doesn't involve animals or kids.

This is my undisputed heavyweight champion of splatterpunk. Also, the narrator really goes all out to give everyone a distinctive voice and accent. It's a very animated performance. The kind of book where it's very worth it on Audible.

The ultimate gross out splatterpunk novel
