I love a tastefully written, hot and passionate book with a story that has some grit to it. Cherise Sinclair is the master of this kind of writing. Always a strong, alpha dom, a matching heroine, but what I find the most intriguing is her stories and how they get to where they are. This one lets us get to know Jake Hunt. We first met him in Logan's story, and now we get to hear his. He is a man, not interested in a relationship after a woman he uncollared committed suicide. Kallie is a a wilderness guide with the Masterson family, trying to learn her place in life. Now in the eye of Jake, her longtime crush, things heat up. We learn a lot about Jake, his past and how it effected then, now and how Kallie learns to help him through.With her own demons, this story has a little of everything, including the steamy erotica Sinclair is known for.

Narrated by Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross, you will love this story. Their chemistry flows through the story as we hear Kallie and Jake's relationship grow. I love their performances and look forward to the next in the series.

I had read the book before and knew it was a great read, but I had to listen to the narration when it came out. I thought that Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross did a great job of narration bringing the characters to life. A good story plus good narration equals a great listen. Made the drive to work more interesting!

This is my favorite within the series. I LOVE the Hunt brothers stories. There were several lines from Jake that gave me butterflies. Kai and Wen are THE BEST. I could listen to a reading of my grocery list by those two! 🖤

This is the first time I have experienced this style of narration on Audible. Male dialogue is always spoken by a male, even when the point of view is that of a female being narrated by a woman and vice versa. So the male narrator never fakes a female voice and the female narrator doesn't fake a male voice. It all flows very smoothly. In addition, when one narrator describes what the other character is doing, you can hear the other character doing it, for example, moaning or laughing. It is a very effective narration style. I liked it a lot. Sometimes, however, I thought the narrators could have “acted” the voices a bit differently. This was a super-sexy story and could have been even hotter if the voices were modulated a little better during intimate scenes – for example, sexy words spoken in a whisper in someone’s ear could have actually been whispered. It makes a big difference. But I was okay with the performances overall.

There is a good story here – the heroine’s background is poignant and beautifully explored in tender moments, and the hero’s tragic loss of a former lover colours his view of love and relationships too. Add in a community of loveable secondary characters in an idyllic location, a murder mystery adding danger, and you have an engaging backdrop to showcase the protagonists’ growing attraction and love.

The sexy times here are HOT in a BDSM style following the safe, sane, consensual motto. The whole concept of BDSM is very confronting for me as a reader still trying to get my head around it. Every story I read requires some level of exhibitionism by the couple, which I find a turn off but the characters don’t. Add in the pain from punishment and I struggle, unless I’m convinced by good writing that it’s hot and erotic. I was convinced here.

It’s my first book by Cherise Sinclair. Won’t be my last.

I truly loved this story. Jake is a sexy, strong Dom! Kallie is a tough, no nonsense kind of girl. They are terrific together. I particularly liked Kallie's back story. The whole plot thread with the killer, was well done and suspenseful, but the resolution was a bit predictable. All in all, a terrific addition to the Mountain Masters!

Once again, Wen and Kai have brought a book to life written by Cherise Sinclair. The emotions, the drama, the intensity of this story will have you hooked!!!

I have read reviews about Wen Ross and what a great narrator how is...I disagree. He reads these dominant male roles and his voice does not sound masculine at all. Just not a good match for the books that I've read with him narrating. The voice doesn't fit the character, which makes it difficult for me to read.

What made the experience of listening to Master of the Abyss the most enjoyable?

Between the fantastic writing and the amazing narration, this book was definitely one of my favorite audiobooks.

What did you like best about this story?

I loved the mystery behind the man who was stalking Kallie when she had no idea he was. I loved how Wen Ross performed him. So creepy!

Which character – as performed by Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross – was your favorite?

I loved Jake and Kallie. Their chemistry was undeniable no matter how much they tried to deny it.

I loved this book and I am dying to listen to more in the series. The Mountain Masters are hot!! Cherise Sinclair has quickly become one of my favorite authors and I cannot wait to see what else she has in store.

There was a very compelling storyline. I loved the interaction between the main characters and the supporting characters. There was realistic dialogue that made the book glow quickly. The narrators were both
exceptional.

If you could sum up Master of the Abyss in three words, what would they be?

Hot. Hotter. Hottest. I've read a lot of BAD BDSM novels, but this was NOT one of them. Sinclair captured the essence of Dominant/Submissive interaction without any of the cheese factor. Kai & Wen were superb storytellers, using different vocal inflections for each person in the story so it was easy to differentiate.
