About this listen

Phantom Waltz is a story of love and of victory over great obstacles.

The first time wealthy rancher Ryan Kendrick sees Bethany Coulter, he falls in love. She shares his passion for horses and can light up a room with her smile. She is perfect in every way - except a riding accident years ago has confined her to a wheelchair. Bethany is convinced that she will never marry or bear children. Now Ryan wants to change her mind. As Ryan tries to win Bethany's trust and her heart, he must use all his resources to learn how to care for her. Phantom Waltz is a truly heartwarming work that portrays both physical challenges and emotional triumphs.

Catherine Anderson has won nine consecutive KISS Awards for her books. A New York Times best-selling author, she never fails to create characters that capture listeners' hearts.

Critic reviews

"Although some readers may be hesitant to read a romance involving such a major physical disability, Anderson makes it not only plausible (with seemingly good research to back her story up) but romantic through and through." ( Publishers Weekly)
"Anderson comes up with another winner by deftly blending sweetness and sensuality in a poignantly written story that proves true love can overcome any boundary." ( Booklist)

Phantom waltz / Catherine Anderson

I absolutely love this book. Wasn't sure on it being Audible, First time I have listened to a book. Still not sure if I liked it. I am an Avid reader. I've read all catherine Anderson's books . I think some stories need both sexes telling the story . I'd like to try another of hers I think.

Unforgettable Gut-wrenching Love Story

What a book! You never forgot a book that makes you cry and feel gut wrenching emotion. I was sorry to see it end. I stayed up the whole night to complete. Ryan and Bethany had a passionate, all consuming love. You could not help but root for both of them as they work through their many trials and tribulations. Both characters were very likable and the narrations was flawless. I am definitely interested in the rest of the series. .

Good story as always

A nice change from the usual tense moment made this a little more realistic though, as usual, a little too perfect and contrived.

Ryan and Bethany

*****SPOILER ALERT*****

'Phantom Waltz' by Catherine Anderson, book 2 in the Kendrick/Coulter/Harrigan series. Audible Premium Plus audiobook borrow. Three POV (Ryan's, Bethany's, and Sly's). Narrator Julia Gibson did a great job. It's listed as 14 hours 43 minutes. I listened for 5 hours 53 minutes. The ebook table of contents shows 22 chapters and an epilogue, but the audiobook only lists 20 chapters. Content warnings: memories of a barrel racing incident; v¡rg¡n h; h is a paraplegic; struggles associated with life in a wheelchair; memories of a car accident leading to the death of H sister-in-law, niece, and nephew; bear attack; and H father is charged by a bull.

Location: Crystal Falls, Oregon

Ryan Kendrick (30; aka Rye) is a blue eyed, dark haired, wealthy playboy. He is the co-owner of the Rocking K ranch. He breeds and sells quarter horses, has $50 million in the bank, and two bachelor degrees (animal husbandry and agriculture). He has a dog named Tripper and a "pet" bull named T-bone. Bethany Coulter (26) is the youngest of 6 (5 older brothers), has blue eyes, a dimpled chin, freckles, a cat named Cleo, is a painter, and is a three time champion barrel racer. She likes to swim, plays tennis and basketball. She hasn't dated in 8 years. She was injured and became a paraplegic in her 4th competition when Wink, her horse, stepped in a hole. She fell off and Wink came down on her. She received her bachelor degree in computer science. Their love story is heartbreaking and beautiful. Ryan meets Bethany in her family's store, The Works. Ryan falls for Bethany instantly, but has to fight past all of her reservations. Ryan goes out of his way to accommodate her and prove to her family he really loves her. Just after they sneak off to marry each other in their own way, Ryan is attacked by a bear and Bethany helplessly sends his horse for help. As they recover she decides the best thing for Ryan is for her to leave. Ryan is bitter and refuses to go after her. Ryan witnesses his father, Keith, get charged and knocked off his feet by a bull trying to protect Ryan. Ryan realizes the trauma Bethany suffered and goes after her. The epilogue finds Sylvester and Helen married, and Ryan and Bethany married and expecting their first baby. JP

Other characters: Harvey Coulter (aka Harv; Bethany's dad; 4th generation rancher; heart condition; lost his ranch and went bankrupt paying Bethany's medical expenses); Mary (Bethany's mom); Bethany's brothers: Jake (31; runs The Works; horse whisperer), Zeke, Hank (28), Isaiah and Tucker (both studying to be vets); Keith (Ryan and Rafe's dad); Anne (60; aka Annie; Rafe and Ryan's mom; retired nurse); Rafe (Ryan's brother; 1st wife: Susan and two children deceased; 2nd wife: Maggie); Heidi (12; Maggie's sister; has a crush on Ryan); Jaimie (Maggie's son); Becca (housekeeper); Paul (Bethany's cheating ex-boyfriend); Slyvester Bob Glass (aka Sly; the ranch foreman); Nan (Bethany's former best friend; married and quickly divorced Paul); Muriel (Jake's date); Helen Boyle (Maggie and Heidi's mom); Amelia (Rafe and Maggie's daughter); Alice (Heidi's friend); Kate (The Works employee). Beautiful & Heartwarming Story!

Catherine Anderson has a special way of making you fall in love with her characters. Each story is written so well and with such amazing detail. I love the way she moves the story along, not spending too much time on the insignificant situations and really elaborating on all the special ones. The Kendrick/Coulter Series is one of my most favorites of all time!
