About this listen

New York Times best-selling author Catherine Anderson lights up the Old West with this tale of love, danger, and redemption. Forced from San Francisco by the slanders of her ex-fiancé, Eden Paxton heads for the wilds of Colorado. But on her way, she’s abducted and abused by ruthless outlaws—until she’s rescued by Matthew Coulter, still obsessed with avenging his wife’s murder. As Eden and Matthew try to elude their pursuers, these two wounded souls struggle to reconcile their tragic pasts—and their growing attraction to one another.

A good story that just missed the mark

Where does Early Dawn rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This story was a good listen without question but does not rank in my top 10 by any means. It is more of a romance novel that tells a good story but does not fall into my genre of reading.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The author's knowledge of the plants in the region she was providing the visuals for

What does Julia Gibson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

A softer voice than my gruff.

If you could rename Early Dawn, what would you call it?

I think the title works well. I wouldn't change it

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed the story, but it did seem to lack in some areas. All references and descriptions were well done with the exception of one. The author made a reference to a runner in baseball that seemed out of place considering the popularity of the sport did not start until a decade after this story.

The narrator did a very nice job of delivering the story. I do believe i could have done without her trying to sound like the males characters when reading those portions.

Overall, I did enjoy the story and would say I may listen to another but I would definitely preview it first.

good, relaxing, fun, realistic

I found the narrator to have lots of colour which added to the overall enjoyment of this story, whilst it was probably not gender accurate for the period, it was plausible given yhe many accounts of extraordinary trailblazers.

Very good!

I enjoyed listening to Early Dawn, although not required to enjoy the book, I think it would have been a better experience if I had listened and read this series in the right order.

Fireworks starts with a bang and then fizzels

Any additional comments?

This story started with a bang and had me hooked with the 1st chapter, but 1/2 way through it fizzled and I found myself anxious for it to end.
It's a period piece and the writing in the beginning reflected that. The way the characters thought, acted and behaved as one would expect. The 2nd half of the book was as if another writer had taken over. Love scenes became very descriptive sex acts, instead of the subtle hints of sexuality. For me... it just didn't meld. I was quite disappointed and found myself fast forwarding through most of the last chapters.
The Narrator, Julia Gibson was pretty good, although she doesn't do the different voices or accents, it was easy to distinguish the different characters. If it hadn't been for her narration I wouldn't have finished the book.

Pleasant enough but strung out in the middle

This was very good- could have been easily cut down an hour in the middle as it seemed a little strung out but great pace in the beginning and end.

Good Listen

This was one of my favorite books of Catherine Anderson. The story flowed and I had a hard time turning it off. Eden was not complaining all the time and Mathew was not pathetic. Loved it

#TopFav loved it

The narrator did a fantastic job. Inflection, tone and emotion came through great. The different voices of the many different characters was amazing.

The trauma that both Matthew and Eden lived through was something out your worst nightmare.
The evil that exists in the world back then was portrayed in a terrifying way.
The Sebastion Brothers were evil personified.
Matthew had to show such bravery and perseverance. Eden lived through something that would normally break the strongest man. She had steel running through her veins.
I normally have a hard time with widower stories as I feel the hero doesn't let go and give the heroine a real chance to show their love is just as important. Matthew did struggle yet the way that these two fell into an amazing friendship first proved that love can bloom and grow anywhere. That if you open a window in your heart, the light of love will fill all the cracks and spaces yet the people who live there aren't gone. They just live among the memories and in the new light of love.

This was beautiful, this was suspenseful and this was just everything I love in a romance.
Again Catherine Anderson proves she's a queen.
