About this listen

A standalone contemporary romance set among neighbors, full of homespun holiday cheer, from Catherine Anderson, New York Times best-selling author of the Mystic Creek series.

Maddie McLendon hasn't had a new relationship since the loss of her beloved husband two years ago. Broken by grief and desperate for a new start, Maddie moves to Bitterroot Valley, Montana with her adult son and her grandson. But despite the natural beauty of her new town, not every change in her life is a welcome one.

Maddie's new next-door neighbor, Sam Conacher, used to be a pillar of the community, but he has driven old friends and new acquaintances away due to a recent heartbreak of his own. He seems to intrude on her life at every turn.

As Christmas draws closer, Sam's and Maddie's grown children begin to fall in love, but Maddie and Sam's interactions are punctuated by an increasingly bitter attitude. Under unexpected circumstances, the other townsfolk of Bitterroot Valley band together to show both Maddie and Sam that moving past their grief is possible, and burdens are lightened when you have someone else to depend on.

I really enjoyed this audiobook. It was sweet, bit not in a syrupy-over-the-top way. The characters were flawed in their own human ways, with fears and insecurities that were sometimes understandable and sometimes overdone...just as it happens in real life. There are two very different love stories, which was a nice twist. Well done!

Very enjoyable listen!

This book was a real treat. I didn’t want it to end. Loved the older characters and found myself laughing out loud. The narrator was incredible and truly brought out the personality of the characters. This one’s a gem!

I haven’t heard a book in quite some time that made me feel all my emotions. Written so smoothly and I was hooked from the beginning.
Excellent read!

This would be a perfect Hallmark Christmas movie. I could even see the actress that I would like to portray Maddie. It had a bit of everything - young people, older people, teenagers, the great outdoors, the wealthier indoors, horses, cows, cowboys, unfortunate accidents, snowstorms. It had everything and then some. The narrator was amazing and able to change voices in a totally believable way. Some narrators cannot carry off sounding like the opposite sex but Susan Bennet did it!! Remarkable narration. This was thoroughly entertaining and not so much romance. All those heaving bosoms' can take up a lot of good space but this book had just the right amount of romance and not too explicit. It was perfect.

This is the first book I have read of Catherine Anderson. Susan Bennett's narration was outstanding along with the story. I can't wait to read another one of her novels. Christmas is my favorite time of year and Catherine's story added a special touch. Her characters are real and so down to earth with real life values. What a pleasure and treat to read something so imaginable. After reading this book, I'd love to visit Montana to get a feel for the home-town life. I just might do that. Thank you, Catherine, for filling my heart with the warmth of "The Christmas Room. "

From the first chapter, the author brought me into the story with her inspired detail. I was there … seeing what each character saw and feeling what they felt. I’ve never experienced such a delightfully touching and unique Christmas story as this book described. Don’t miss this treasure !!

I laughed, I cried, I could imagine and picture it all as the story unfolded. The narrator did an amazing job reeling in the listener. So wonderfully written and detailed. I thoroughly enjoyed it from the very first paragraph to the end. Thank you so much for a great story! Just a note, the scene with the outhouse had me laughing till I cried!
