About this listen

Done with being the world's biggest pushover, Haley decides that things are going to change starting with the aggravating neighbor who has too much charm and not enough restraint. What she didn't expect was to be sucked into his world, but Haley has a game plan and she won't let herself forget just what the bad boy next door is capable of.

The last thing Jason expected was for his little shy neighbor to go Rambo on him over some ruined flowers. After he decides to take her under his wing he can't help but that notice that she fits very nicely in his life. Now the only left is to convince her that this is anything but a game.

Editorial reviews

R. L. Mathewson's ear for witty dialogue and tension-filled scenes is on full display in her audiobook Playing for Keeps. Haley, young and easily pushed over, has finally decided she's had enough and it's high time she takes charge of her life. When she spies her annoying neighbor ruining one of her flowerbeds, she finds her first opportunity to take charge. The only problem is, Jason, the troublesome neighbor, has a look and physique that could melt a popsicle in January. Performed by Eileen Stevens with a sultry energy, Playing for Keeps is a perfect for remedy for those cold, late nights.

A little too long

I feel like the story could have ended at least an hour earlier. It was dragged out a bit much for my liking. I also think the "my little grasshopper" was thrown out too much. It felt like it was in practically every sentence.

Best book I've read/listened to , in a long time!

I listen to audible daily, always looking for another great book, I think I've read or listened to just about all the good ones, (all I do is read/listen to books, average about 3,a week, so when I say, this is the best one in a long time, I'm serious! I laughed out loud more than once! The only times I put it down was when I was at work! I will be getting all the books in this series!

Wonderful story!

I really enjoyed this story. The narrator did an excellent job in bringing the story to life. I will now listen to the second book in the series.

Food is life! Read the book and find out why

Sexy, funny, and just a great read. Lord how do you get banned from an all you can eat buffet?
They were destined to be together.

Conflicted/

Let me start by saying I've battled with my weight all my life and the character Zoe was just too self loathing/depricating . Borderline anorexic, and I get it, trust me, I was close to 300lbs at one point. *Spoiler Alert********But once you start sleeping with a man, losing some weight, even though she darn near had to starve herself.....Her self esteem didn't rise at all??? That was weird to me......Yeah it came fuel, circle in the end and I understood better why she was still struggling...... I don't know this story was hard for me....

Great Series

This is one of my all time favorite romantic comedy series! Very fun to revisit the annoying but lovable Bradford’s and the amazing women who manage them.

“Little grasshopper”

The book has a cute story, but the number of times “little grasshopper” was said (and at all different times) was a LOT and had me rolling my eyes!

A deliciously wild ride.

This book takes going to war with your neighbors to a whole new, and exciting, level.

It’s ok.... not terrible... but not great either.

I really wanted to love this book. So much so that I listened until there was only an hour left. But finally gave up and quit.

The characters never really develop... they just stay flat. There’s so much potential but it’s like the author didn’t bother expanding past the rough draft.

My second major issue, besides the characters being underdeveloped is the way the guy character supposedly thinks throughout the book. It’s just so unrealistic. He’s basically a frat boy from a crappy teen movie.

Also... the “jokes” aren’t really funny at all...and it’s the same “joke” throughout the entire book. He likes food. We get it.

I promise I wanted to love this book. I really did. It’s ok... not terrible... just not all that great either.
