Publisher's summary

A devastating plague has changed the world's society. In rebuilding the population, the government has deemed that all women are to be nothing more than slaves, bought and paid for, with one purpose - to breed.

Prima is such a woman, sold by her father to Joseph, a man who intends to get full use of her in every conceivable way.

Truly, the world as we know it has changed. But as Prima learns to adjust to her life and the harshness of Joseph's punishments, as well as the tenderness he occasionally exhibits, will she discover that she feels more for this demanding man than she is willing to admit?

Wonderfully narrated yet too hardcore for me.

What drew me to this story in the first place was the dystopian setting and the BDSM romance aspects indicated in the blurb as well as the narrator. I enjoyed the narration. The narrator has great voice inflection that kept me coming back to finish this story even when I may not have if I had been reading it myself.

I have taken some time to think about why the story itself irked me on occasion considering I do enjoy BDSM romance. I can't say that it is the non-consensuality because this is the basis of slavery, to begin with, and a given in the context of this storyline. So, I didn't have that as an expectation. I don't believe it was the actual punishments either even when I thought they were at times unrealistic. I believe what rubbed me in various parts of the story were the humiliation aspects. I know though from experience that humiliation actually does trip some submissives triggers. Needless to say, it's not my cup of tea whether from the giving or receiving end.

All that being said, the story is well written and the narration was excellent. Had the story not tripped a few of my own personal triggers I would have enjoyed it much more.

A voice for domination

This is a great book written by Carolyn Faulkner. Once again her style of domestic discipline was sexy and delicious. Adding the narration by La Petite Mort tipped this audio into a must listen. The story was written from a prospective in a different time and culture. The character development through the emotions that are exhibited, made it easy to understand and bond with both. It takes a certain type of woman to be completely subservient and be OK with her self and the place she has chosen in life. Even though in the story she might not have chosen the place she ends up, in her heart she's exactly where she needs to be and the narrator brought those emotions to the forefront perfectly. I loved it.

WOW

If you want a hot listen full of nothing but sex, this is the book for you. The story takes place in a male dominated world, if this offends you, I would suggest you pass on this novel. The narrator was excellent, but the audible version could use some editing. However, it did not take away from the hotness of the book.

Just one problem

The narrator's voice is so masculine and sexy that he shouldn't make a feminine voice to the heroine. It's weird and destroy the ilusion of the narrative.

Warning - MALE DOMINATED OVER FEMALE BDSM SEX

This story is set in the future (not too distant) and is based on on a male dominated culture; one that is to the extreme, where females are sexual slaves of men. Please, PLEASE, BE WARNED that women are raped in this audiobook repeatedly where by forcibly BDSM'ed and medical play forcibly happen throughout the storyline.

While I was hooked into the characters and the storyline I was hoping that the two main characters would eventually break from their given rolls and start to find love in one another, as at times there was affection and tenderness shown to Prima (the lead female character).

This was my first audiobook that I listened to by Carolyn Faulkner and it was eye opening to say the least. The narrator, La Petite Mort did an outstanding job and has the perfect voice for this type of audiobook!

If you like this review, as well as the audiobook's description than by all means buy a copy and enjoy it for yourself!

I received a free copy of this audiobook and I am freely giving my opinion and review of said audiobook.

Prima/Catherine and Joseph

This book is really over the top hardcore and very dark and disturbing. Prima was sold by her father to Joseph. Joseph was extremely dominant and could be very mean and abusive. Prima was very submissive. He would punish her for no good reason - just because and he would severely punish her. Her cries were music to his ears. Joseph was a sadistic b@stard. If it were not for the crazy laws regarding women and how they are treated, she could have stabbed him in his sleep even though it would have been a death sentence for her. Believe it or not, Joseph was better than most men during this time. I thought the book was well written even though it made me angry for the way she was treated. Joseph raped her whenever and in whatever way he desired. La Petite Mort did an awesome job with the narration. He has a great voice for a dominant. I received this free copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Fascinating dystopian story - not for everyone.

I loved this storyline, the dystopian premise based upon a plague is very well detailed. I felt as though I were living in the 'new world' along side Prima. This was at times both disturbing and satisfying. The writing is very good as I have come to expect from CF. Character development is superb; I already said I felt a closeness with Prima but the H is also just as approachable and as a bonus tertiary characters are vivid as well. There are elements of the story that require suspension of disbelief but this fiction after all.
I love LPM as a narrator and this time is no exception. His voice is absolutely perfect for the H; he also makes Primas' voice very believable and comfortable to listen to.
Editing: this is where I took off a star from performance. There are two problems that distract from my enjoyment of the book from time to time. The first is that some words are painfully mis-pronounced (e.g. wryly is pronounced wire-ly). To me this is an editing issue because a narrator should be coached and the track re-recorded. The second issue is several instances where phrases are repeated; the intonation and stresses are different most of the time. It sounds as if a second cut was taken to correct something but both cuts were left in the recording. These two issues are my only criticism of this listen - otherwise I personally loved it.
Fair warning: this book is not for everyone. There are elements of D/s, bondage, medical play, domestic discipline (spanking, some of it very brutal), and a certain sense of non-consensual sex (explained by the circumstances of the dystopian world).
If these themes are of interest to you and you'd like to get away from it all for a few hours lost in an alternate world then this book is for you. Enjoy!

Good story

This story is strong bdsm. Non consensual. Because of the alternative reality, this was fine. I really enjoyed it. The narrator was really good. I listened to this as audible escape. The next in the series isn’t so I probably will read it instead.

So over the top abusive

I was so excited by the potential of the overall storyline but was soon repulsed by the repetitive abuse and enjoyment of human suffering. Joseph was a one dimensional caricature of a sick sadistic sexual predator. The story itself made no sense. In less than a generation, the only surviving women of a global plague, are rendered as less than human possessions, and owned by men to be beaten, (whether they supposedly deserve it or not), repeatedly raped, tortured and humiliated for their masters pleasure. A simple explanation, like maybe the virus that decimated their society somehow turned all the men cruelly sadistic. That would have at least offered some plausibility for their devolution, but the back story here was sadly missing. Instead the entire story relied on an repetitive beatings, rape, sexual tortue, humiliation, and subjugation.

They claimed to have the intention of breeding but seem completely unconcerned by the high level of miscarriages. Hmm....I wonder if females being denied medical care combined with constant ritualistic abuse has anything to do with it? Even when the rare viable pregnancy does produce a child only boys are valued while girls are unwanted mouths to feed and dressed in rags. They are subjected to female circumcision at birth, and are indoctrinated into the same sexual slavery at some unspecified, unacceptable young age, just like their mothers. Oh...and even son's have dominion over mother's & sisters allowing them to join in on the abuse!

This actually leads me to one of the abundant plot wholes to add to this glaringly implausible tale. How could laws like women not being allowed the knowledge to read and generational abuse supposed to already exist when according to Prima she was college educated before the plague, but she's only in her late 20's? If she graduated at 22 that leaves less than a decade for this screwed up new dystopian structure to form. Again it just doesn't make sense. Was she supposed to forget how to read? The entire thing is completely unsustainable. When a planet has a sudden decline in childbearing age women, they become the species most valuable resource, and wouldn't be given to men with such low regard for their wellbeing. They would more likely be treated like royalty even if their freedom were removed. Quite frankly that would be a better story direction. A

My last conflict is with trying to paint Joseph as being some great catch just because he got Prima medical attention after causing her such grave harm with her scheduled "weekly punishment". The uterus is designed to stretch to the size of a full term baby - Not your freaking colon! His concern was always about damaging his property and not for her suffering he got so much enjoyment from. Oh and by the way...his severity and frequency of beatings in reality would more than likely to have scarred. Just because she was a natural submissive doesn't make any of this acceptable. Don't get me wrong. I've got no problem with a little non-con action or even daddy kink, but this was just over the top unrelenting abuse. I don't even think a consenting masochist submitting to a deserving well matched sadist is a turn off but this just sickened me.

The only redeeming aspect was the narrator. He really has a great Dominant Alpha voice. I kinda wonder how he felt having to act such an evil part. As for myself...I literally shocked myself with the intensity of my own violent revenge fantasy against Joseph. He would need to pee into a plastic bag from a tube before I was done with him!
