About this listen

Princess Avaegna of Tonyeh wasn't supposed to be married off to the Kohnzi warrior, Prince Stohsz. That was supposed to be her older sister's fate. She hadn't been raised as the usual Tonyeh woman, content to keep a house, raise children, and defer to her man. Indulged by her father and five older brothers, they taught her to fight, ride, and use a crossbow with deadly accuracy. But when her sister dies unexpectedly, she is required to step into her sister's tiny, pristine shoes.

In the end, it is much worse for her than she could ever imagine, as she is stripped of everything she ever knew and brought to live with a man who seems to know her better than she knows herself - especially when it comes to handling her in - and out - of their shared bedroom. He makes discoveries about her deepest self and exposes them to her, forcing her to confront her darkest desires.

After he kept her cloistered in his room for long, dark months, she is suddenly brought into the spotlight and required to accompany him and his warriors on a raid of a neighboring town - despite the other men's misgivings about having a female along.

When push comes to shove, though, she is more than willing to fight for herself, and ends up getting much more than she bargained for.

Couldn't stop listening

What made the experience of listening to Princess Slave the most enjoyable?

This is the kind of book I really enjoy. kept me going for the next chapter. The narrator had a lovely voice and the range she show from character to character help bring this to life

Who was your favorite character and why?

Tonyeh, Why? because that the main character and I wanted to see what happened to her

Which scene was your favorite?

hard to pick just one, but the internal struggles to submit or resist are just tasty

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

completely. I ended up sitting in the parking lot at work and coming in 10 minutes late trying to finish one of the chapters

Any additional comments?

I hope they have more to this story and that we get the same narrator

undecided

I am not real sure how I feel about this book. I have read quite a few of this author's works and this is the first time I have ever doubted whether the heroine was loved by the hero of the story. I have read many dark romances and there was always a underlying feeling of love. I did not feel this way with this story at all.

Carolyn Faulkner, enough said

Carolyn Faulkner did it again. I loved this story. No one writes a world where male dominance and female submission is not just expected but is the law, like she does. The feisty heroin is thrown into a position that was meant for her sister and holds her head high even while being subjugated. She learns to not only love the pain but embrace it. Even though she is made a slave instead of the princess in which she is entitled to be, by the end she has the respect of the people, the King, and her master. She my rightfully be called Queen one day but to her King she will always be a slave to his dark passion. Narration was done fabulously.

Good Story, Horrid Narration

The story was quite good, but it was marred by a narrator who could not pronounce the most basic words. In addition, her delivery was pathetic. Are there no editors who listen to the books before releasing them to the unsuspecting public?

Emotional & Sexy

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would if the person was into dark erotica about a strange sci-fi land.

If you’ve listened to books by Carolyn Faulkner before, how does this one compare?

I haven't this is one of the first.

Which scene was your favorite?

When the woman's hair changes from the beautiful blue color into a bright pink indicating she is matched with her sexual soul mate. The image of the woman being upset about the drastic change and everyone knowing she enjoyed it was unique!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes

Any additional comments?

Most of the names were not actually from any known language so the narrator did a great job. I enjoy the seductive pace of the narrator and hope to hear more from her!

Narration ruins the story

I would probably enjoy the story a lot more if the narrated didn’t almost spur every syllable out, making the listening experience unpleasant because of the staccato feel to it. I can take a few minutes at a time and feel pretty pushed that Faulkner’s story is destroyed by someone so inept at performing a book. I will never buy another book with Lyric as the narrate.

worst female narration in a long time

What would have made Princess Slave better?

a different narrator

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Opt for a narrator whose vocabulary includes the correct pronunciation of the words in the story.

What didn’t you like about Lyric’s performance?

Speaks too slowly and highly limited vocabulary precludes the correct pronunciation of too many words which makes listening painful.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The story is well written and very well done as far as the authors product is concerned. This may be the first audio book I've listened to that I believe would be better enjoyed without this narrator.

Any additional comments?

The narrators performance skills are considerable but no amount of speaking skills can overcome her profoundly limited vocabulary with regard to mispronunciations.
