About this listen

“Ten thousand dollars. That pitiful sum changed my entire life. It bought my entire life. A measly ten thousand dollars, given to my boyfriend by a monster to taste me. He took it. The monster took me. And I never saw freedom again.”

I’m the illegitimate son of a monster.

My other half-blooded siblings have their own demons…but me?

I truly have the devil inside.

I try to be good.

To do my best to ignore the deep, dark, despicable urges.

But every day it gets harder.

I thought family could help.

I reached out to my infamous half-brother, Q, begging for his secrets to stay tamed.

Instead, he gave me an ultimatum to prove I’m not like our father.

Infiltrate The Jewelry Box: a trafficking ring of poor unfortunate souls, kill the Master Jeweler, free the Jewels, and don’t lose my rotten soul while trying.

Only problem is…my initiation into this exclusive club is earning a Jewel all of my own.

She sparkles like diamonds, bleeds like rubies, and bruises as deep as emeralds.

She’s mine to break.

I can’t refuse.

If I want to prove to my half-brother that I’m not like our sire, I have to sink into urges I’ve always fought, plunge into madness, and lose myself so deeply into sin that the only one who will be breaking is me.

A spin-off from the New York Times Bestselling series Monsters in the Dark.

The Jewelry Box follows Henri Mercer (Q's half-brother) and you don't have to listen to Monsters in the Dark to enjoy. The storylines are completely separate. You Do Not have to listen to anything else to enjoy this Dark Romance Series.

Strictly R18.

Triggers on every warning possible.

This is dark, explicit, and will push every possible boundary that exists.

Be warned....To all those dark souls out there...welcome to The Jewelry Box

Pepper Winters is back with a Bang!

Ok, much of this book is a slooooooow build and it’s weird how no one explains to H or I anything that might happen (like the ruby tears of the title).
But still. This might just be the beginning of a masterpiece. Unfortunately there’s no date on when the next audiobooks will come.
Which is weird since publication dates for the written books are out. It can’t be that difficult Audible?

One let down is the voice of Henry. Can’t put my finger on it. It just doesn’t really do it

Couldn't get past the monotone way the narrators read.

The presentation(narration)was horrible....The male narrator brings nothing....while the female brings too much...couldn't get into the story

Ruby Tears

Please, please check your triggers for this book but it is HARD to read.

Ily is in Paris with her boyfriend when she realizes she doesn’t want to be with him anymore. She breaks up with him in a club. While arguing with her boyfriend, a man approaches and offers to buy her for 10,000 euros. The boyfriend (or ex-boyfriend) agrees and she is forced into a world that no one should ever have to go through. Although the man, Henri, has an ulterior motive for doing what he is doing he can’t help his devious thoughts and wanting to cause pain. This book ends on a cliffhanger and my god, I am dying for the next one.

This book was so good and it touches on a sensitive subject. Pepper Winters weaved an amazing story and I am honestly dying to read more. I previously read book 1 in Q’s story, but at the time it was unfinished and I sort of forgot but didn’t at the same time. It always stuck with me. Anyways, this book makes me want to read all of Q’s books. There is also a prequel, sort of, to this one called Mercer’s Curse that I would recommend reading. You kind of get more detail on what brought Henri to where he is at the beginning. Also, I did the audiobook/kindle for this meaning I listened and followed along in the kindle. The audiobook was so good Luke and Lucy really had me absorbed the moment I started listening. So if you can get past the triggers I would suggest the audiobooks. It was an experience worth listing too and it is also duet so that made it even better.

It’s a quarter of a book. No resolution to any part.

This is a serial, not a series. It’s a part of a book…all introduction. Really disappointed with the greed and poor form.

Lack of Character Development

What did I read? I couldn't get into these MCs. The FMC, Ily, was naive and was kidnapped by the MMC, Henri. He’s trying to uncover a sex trafficking ring on behalf of his half-brother, Q. There was zero character development from both Ily and Henri.

Throughout the book, their inner monologues killed me. Ily was conflicted but down to be degraded by Henri. She felt guilty for not being there for her brother when she wasn't in the moment with Henri. As for Henri, he’s basically a rapist. He goes from I'm trying not to be a monster to rationalizing his demented behavior.

It ends on a cliffhanger. I'm not invested enough to find out more about how the victims are treated like property by wealthy men and numbing the pain through drugs. I also don't care for Henri’s character.
