Publisher's summary

Lady Sophie MacIntyre has the voice of an angel, but due to her timid nature, no one ever hears it. After losing a bet to her conniving sister, Sophie auditions for the new musicale at the Regal Theatre run by handsome actor Zachary Newland. Though distracted by Zach's elegant masculinity and her own nerves, she sings well and earns a role in the production.

Zach is a confirmed bachelor, and his taste in women leans toward the glamorous and uninhibited...until he meets the demure Sophie. Her delicate soprano and understated beauty captivate him. She responds to his inappropriate kiss, but quickly dismisses the heat between them. She's a lady of the peerage, after all, and not one to associate with a rake like him.

Zach, however, is not so easily dissuaded. He gets what he wants, and he intends to help Sophie find her true voice...in more ways than one.

From enduring trauma to Finding Love

Such a beautiful Love Story the trauma the pain the family endured. To a beautiful loving ending.

Naughty and Nice

Sophie does find her voice indeed. I enjoyed finding out what happened to the last of the family members in the series.

Sophie and Zach are great

But the mystery was annoying. All the supporting characters I liked from before were annoying. The Earl was ridiculous and the biggest hypocrite. The mother became a doormat to the suddenly uber snobby Earl. Evan won’t let Sophie see her sister while she is recovering, at least at first. And was a womb removal in 1850s a thing, and if so, was it an at home procedure?

I loved Sophie and Zach. Too bad we didn’t get more of them and the theater. Five stars for the book cover art!

*spoiler alert***

Once they knew Bertram wasn’t the villain, it should have been obvious who was, but everyone was busy being stupid. I thought the villain might actually be a real surprise other than the obvious, but no. Then after making a huge fuss over Sophie being on house arrest to protect her, the Earl has no idea she disappears and hasn’t assigned anyone to guard her. If that weren’t bad enough, he makes the decision to go after her without his mountain of a son to help them. Good grief. This book needed a clever proofreader to point out the logical errors.

And just when I thought the excerpts from the erotica book were a thing of the past book, this book ends on one. The actual sex between the main characters is mature erotica with real people you care about. The fictitious book doesn’t move me at all. It is the difference between watching Batman as made for TV and Batman the movie. The names of the fictitious erotica book characters are cartoonish metaphors.

Even so, the writing is good. I will read other things by this author. It just could have been so much better. The narrator was good.

Very nice series

I loved This is my third series by Helen Hardt and I have again fallen in love with the characters. For this series specifically I like how each book is focused on a different character. You can read them in order, out of order, or alone and not miss anything. The accents of the actors help to bring authenticity to the story as they should. I felt like I was taken back in time!

hardt needs to do more research

hardt writes like a womb removal is just a normal thing in the 1850s. she mentioned it in the first book of the series which was ridiculous. the character of doctor prices comes off as having a womb removal fetish. that's his go-to prognosis
