Publisher's summary

TV reporter Laura Nilsson, known as the "Baghdad Babe," spent eighteen months in an Al-Qaeda compound after being kidnapped live on the air. Two years later, she's still wondering why.No mission in Javier Corbray's fourteen years as a Navy SEAL affected him the way Laura's rescue did.

No woman had stirred his protective instincts the way she did. And he wants her more than he's ever wanted anyone. As Laura and Javier's passion ignites, so does Laura's need to discover the mystery of her past. Especially when she learns that her abduction was not random - and that she's still a target for a killer with an impenetrable motive. Now Javier will have to rely on his skills to keep the woman he loves from being struck down before she dares uncover the truth.

One of Pamela Clare's Best

What about Kaleo Griffith’s performance did you like?

Kaleo Griffith has done another amazing job bringing Pamela Clare's story to life. The depth of emotion, suspense, and sensual intrigue is amazing. Kaleo is hands-down one of my favorite audiobook narrators.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

If I could have made it through without sleep, I would have!

Any additional comments?

I am a huge fan of Pamela Clare's I-Team series, as well as her historical romance. Striking Distance was eagerly anticipated, and it did not disappoint. This is perhaps one of Pamela Clare's best works - which is saying something because all of her work is well-researched, descriptive, steeped in reality, and full of raw, sexual tension. The detail and depth of story in Striking Distance had me hooked from the prologue through the last words of the epilogue. Pamela excels at telling a rich, multi-layered story full of enjoyable and memorable characters. Many characters have been introduced throughout the series and it is a pleasure to see them carry through her new books. This story made me laugh, cry, and root for Laura & Javier's HEA. And the romance? Pamela does NOT disappoint.

If you have not already done so, check out the Striking Distance prequel First Strike....you won't be disappointed!!

Great story..

I actually liked this story very much however I found that Javier being Puerto Rican was not completely believable. Other than that I really liked it.

No Strikes, it's a homerun!

What did you love best about Striking Distance?

I have read all of PC's books. This book seems to be so much more from her heart. All of her books feel this way, but, SD, is a couple notches above.

What did you like best about this story?

Ms Clare doesn't simply write a book. She creates characters and scenarios that are complicated, powerful, compassionate and most of all believable. I found myself wanting to add them to my extended family. She weaves characters from previous books into each addition to the I-Team series, keeping them all alive and active. They fit into Striking Distance seamlessly without taking away from the main characters.

The heart and soul Pamela Clare put into this, no matter how difficult it was dealing with issues she herself survived, was insightful and heart wrenching while taking the reader through the struggle both main characters have to move on.

Ms Clare is diligent to distraction with her research. Places, people, cultures and circumstances become so real due to her fine attention to detail.

What does Kaleo Griffith bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I have read and listened to SD. Kaleo Griffith brings the depth of emotions to life. His appreciation for Pamela's work is very apparent. I read a review that commented on his portrayal of women's voices being less than acceptable. I have to say that this is true of most every book I've listened to performed by a man. The same is true for women portraying men. HOWEVER, that doesn't distract me from the story or the performance. Mr. Griffith truly gave me much more appreciation for the story. I certainly didn't put the heart into reading the book as I felt from Kaleo's performance.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There are so many. When Laura first saw Javier at the BBQ. This is hard without spoilers. I will simply say that at the end of the story when Javier gave Laura her heart's desire and the decision Laura made when she got it.

Any additional comments?

I will start out by saying that before you read Striking Distance, pick up First Strike, a novella prequel. SD is a stand alone book, however First Strike enhances the emotion and understanding you will have for the characters. First Strike is much more erotic than Pamela Clare's norm, yet it felt so right.

Now, for my giddiness over the release of this book. It was long awaited. I've counted down the days. I savored it as I read it. I love this book, it exceeded my expectations. I have hard copy, digital and audio.

Drop everything. Buy the book now! It's that good. Then go out and get all of her books, including her historical books, they will knock your socks off.

This one is so-so.

Where does Striking Distance rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This one was my least favorite so far. Pamela Claire's endings usually make me cry but this one fell short.

What does Kaleo Griffith bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Kaleo Griffith does an amazing narrative as always.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, plot didn't live up to my exceptions.

wonderfully heartbreaking

What did you love best about Striking Distance?

The romance is heartbreaking, sensuous and satisfying. All the I-team books are fantastic, but this one has the most emotional extremes of happy and sad, fear and fantasy, good and evil, passion and penance. I love Pamela Clare's novels because she knows how to craft her characters to be exceptional but sympathetic, the plots extreme but believable, and really tell the story. But even the greatest literature can be butchered by a bad narration and I have to compliment the author for choosing one of the best audio book performers in the business, Kaleo Griffith, to make her books even better in audio book form. Bravo!

Love Love Love!!!

So much drama! So much in this one! So so so funny. there are some absolutely great parts that made me laugh until I cried. This is a great series and this one may be my favorite! So often a longer series gets dull but that is not the case for sure!

Each book gets even better than the last!

I was hesitant at first due to the storyline featuring terrorism and how real a scenario it is. Having family fighting and having been in middle eastern countries it hits close to home and I try to avoid stories such as this. I just couldn't pass up the last I-team book though. I found the series and bought the first on a whim and I'm do glad I did. Pamela Clare is a wonderful storyteller and Kaleo Griffith does a wonderful job bringing her stories to life. I absolutely adored this book and the sweetness of Javier and Lara. He proves to be a real man over and over not just in protecting her but loving her through the hard times. I'll listen to the whole series again and again!

Heroism, survival and a poignant tearjerker

This is an unforgettable book telling the tale of survival, strength, enduring passion, and outright heroism on both male and female parts.

Pamela Clare's I-Team series carries the badge of authenticity of a real investigative reporter and editor and the clean smooth writing and pacing of a career writer. The original and realistic tales the I-Team reporters are ramped up by the intense hot romances of the amazing men they team up with.

But this one was a little different, and dealt with really hard subjects. I don't want to give anything away, but the word "Epic" kept coming to mind as I listened. For the second time. I bought the book last year when it first came out, and just re-listened a second time and am struck by the sweeping nature of the story. We get the usual happy ever after, but not the one we were necessarily expecting.

This book is bang for your buck as you'll be able to come back to it again fresh, and you'll be able to appreciate the twists, turns, complexities and the choices the characters will have to make.

Get this book--its worth every penny or credit.
