Narration was excellent!

I really enjoyed the narration here. Leonardo did a great job with the characters and keeping an even pace with his voice. Unfortunately studio production there was something funky going on and the levels got changed a lot during the story. I had to keep changing how I was listening to it so I could hear clearly. I give the audio a 4/5 stars.

The story itself is alright. It's nothing special, but nothing crazy either. There could have been more heat as the blurb led me to believe there would be. And I think it was a little weird how most of the last hour of the audio was the only sex scene. I am not a fan of super drawn out sexy bits, so that's probably a person preference here. There is a nice twist in the plot that upped it. I would say overall the story is a solid 3-3.5/5 stars.

Cute Story

Narrator: 3 out of 5 stars
Story: 4 out of 5 stars
Overall: 3 1/2 out of 5 stars

Jason and Blake knew each other years ago when Jason tutored Blake so he could pass his high school math class. They haven’t seen or spoken to each other in years, but when they are randomly hooked up again, it’s like no time has passed - for Blake at least.

I enjoyed this story though it was hard to distinguish the point of view and who was “talking” without more voice difference from the narrator and context clues from the author. I might have had an easier time if I had read it rather than listened, but I still enjoyed the book.

It was a quick rekindling and the awkwardness of the situations were cute. Blake was sweet and obviously had feelings for Jason. I loved the moment when Jason walked into the hotel room to discover all of the crazy food and wonder who in the world he was meeting….and the realization of who it was.

#NotTooBad

Would you consider the audio edition of #The Best Ever to be better than the print version?

I have not read this book. Because I have the audio version, I don't think that I need the print copy. It's a short listen and that's fine by me because there are certain times where I want to listen to a book that's not too long. This book is a good reason to check out some of Ms. Wadsworth's other books to see what else she has to offer readers.

Which scene was your favorite?

I didn't really have a favorite. Each scene was needed for the book to make sense and helped to make the story flow.

Any additional comments?

Mr. Leonardo was a good choice for a narrator. He helped me picture the characters as he told me Jason Lewis' story. If I had to give a downside it was that as time went on I started to cringe after hearing the word hashtag after a while. I even found myself adding one or two myself.

This was my first 1Night Stand book and it was a good introduction. A good reason to see what else this series has to offer. Have not read this author's work before and it was a good place to start. Others may enjoy listening to a story that shows how the high school geek can grow up and find a little bit of happiness. If you're a jock even you can hook up with a nerd and have a pleasant experience.

Sweet second chance for former crushes

This is a novella in the 1NightStand series, and mixes a little sweet with a touch of second chance romance and a heavy dose of nerd/jock matchup, and what you get is another great addition to this series.

Jason is the nerdy math kid in high school, subject to bullying at the hands of the jock and popular crowd, at least until the star baseball player he’s tutoring—Blake—gets wind of it. There’s a touching moment between the two during a comfort scene at the beginning of the story, but then they wind up going their separate ways until they meet up again seven years later.

While you can probably predict who Madame Eve has set up for Jason, how it all comes about and plays out afterward makes for a sweet, then sensual story…as well as a culmination of more than one high school crush.

This is a quick read/listen, yet it still gave me a satisfying story and characters with depth that I really did enjoy. The story was a 4-star read for me, and fits very well with the series. If you’re looking for something shorter that will still result in a thorough story, you’ll definitely find it here with #The Best Ever.

The narration: This is the first audiobook I’ve listened to with this narrator. He has a pleasant voice, and paced the story well, though sometimes the consistency of the voices was lacking. The sound quality seemed to change often throughout the story, which was a bit annoying at times. And while reading “#” (“hashtag”) over and over doesn’t bother me, hearing it said over and over actually did—though this is not due to the narrator, it’s just having that same word said out loud so many times in one story was distracting for me. Overall though, I was satisfied with this audiobook and will be listening to it again in the future.

A great second chance story.

I love second chance stories and this was a good one, albeit a little short with a bit of an abrupt ending. The premise of the 1Night Stand stories (each is a standalone) is that Madame Eve matches her clients with their soul mates, regardless of circumstance or location. Goodreads says the print book is 54 pages; the audio that I listened to was 2 hours long.

Nerdy red-head, Jason Lewis, is awkward in social situation so he decides to book a date with Madame Eve while he's in Las Vegas for video game convention. While there he runs into Major League Baseball player, Blake, whom he tutored in high school. The blurb for the book pretty much says everything about the story so give it a read.

I'll add that I really enjoyed the narration by Terrance Leonardo. His voice captured how I envisioned the 22-year-old might sound and the sex scenes were really hot. I was engrossed in the story right from the beginning. The only thing that I found about irritating was the use of hashtags throughout the entire story. (e.g. They were spoken as "hashtag I'm such as nerd.") I don't think this would have bothered me as much if I had read the book but it got a bit tiresome while listening to it. That might be because I'm past 60; younger people might not be bothered by this at all. 😊

Because the whole premise of the story is that it's a one-night-stand, the book does end a bit abruptly but I was satisfied with the HFN. In all honestly, though, I wouldn't mind a follow-up story about these two guys.

A copy of this audiobook was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.

4 stars = I REALLY liked this audiobook!

I received a free copy of this audiobook to listen to and review for Wicked Reads.

I used to read the M/F 1Night Stand novellas all the time and had no idea the series had expanded to include M/M stories until a little over a year ago when I bought an audiobook edition of one. So after listening to the sample to make sure I liked the narrator’s voice, I signed up to review the audiobook edition of #The Best Ever and when a new day dawned for Jason and Blake, I was very pleased that I had done so.

Jason was your classic nerd in high school, making him an easy target of bullying. The only bright spot in his sophomore year was that the jock he was tutoring in math wasn’t one of his bullies. In fact, Blake offered to teach one of Jason’s tormentors a lesson – which Jason didn’t take him up on. Fast forward seven years and Jason is on his way to a video game convention in Las Vegas, where he has also made arrangements with Madame Eve for a 1Night Stand encounter. While at the convention, Jason discovers that Blake is there promoting one of the sports video games he is in and he decides to say hi to Blake. Unexpectedly, not only does Blake remember Jason, but he makes a big deal about their reunion and invites Jason to a VIP party that evening. Even though he’s no longer the same timid boy he was in high school, Jason is still full of insecurities and isn’t sure he can hang out with Blake and his friends in a sports bar. But Jason is tired of regretting the things he didn’t do, so he plucks up the courage and heads to meet Blake. After a rocky beginning to the night, the two have a great time and all is well until Blake has to cut out early for a meeting – which works out great because Jason’s 1Night Stand appointment is at the same time. Can you see it coming? They didn’t. At all. And it makes for one really awkward beginning to the evening… and left me laughing at them. As expected, Jason and Blake have great chemistry that carries over quite nicely to the bedroom, which makes for a very steamy listen and big decisions to be made the morning after.

This is the first audiobook narrated by Terrence Leonardo that I’ve listened to and I really liked his performance. Leonardo has a pleasant voice and was convincing as both the nerdy Jason and the athletic Blake. Leonardo has an interesting ability to enunciate the words so clearly that they should sound stilted yet does it in a completely conversational manner so that it isn’t stilted at all and the story flows nicely. I feel as though I should mention that there were two or three scenes where the difference in audio quality was apparent, but it wasn’t enough to disrupt my enjoyment of the story or affect my overall rating. I really enjoyed #The Best Ever – including all the hashtags – and look forward to more from both Wadsworth and Leonardo.

Pretty good book

This is the first book I have read (or listened) by this author, and while I think the storyline was good for a novella, this narrator took away from that a bit and the audio quality broke up in several places. This being said I did like the story and thought it was a quick, intense, and hot book. I loved the history between the characters and how their past and present collided. I would recommend this book to others if you are looking for an HEA without the drama and heartache!

Great Listen!

I really enjoyed this audio book! This was my first time listening to Terrence Leonardo and he did a wonderful job with the story. He brought the characters to life and he nailed each and every emotion. I listened to this story in one sitting and I am so sad that is over. I will definitely be listening to more narrations by Leonardo. This was the first time "reading" this author and I enjoyed the story line and I will be sure to check more out from this author as well!

#"What the hell?"

That line made me laugh b/c it was said in the perfect way to denote the narrator's understanding of the cultural connection of that phrase. I can't say I liked much more than that about the story. The narrator did a fine job, but the story was a fledgling tale. I didn't like that the author referred to a pair of pants as "gay pants." I didn't like that she played the color-blind card, which I thought everyone in 2018 knew showed a lack of racial cultural competency. If you "see everyone the same," the question is "same as what?" Folk who can't see beauty and admiration in all of the varieties of folk got a problem, likely more than one. They apparently can only see beauty and admiration when it comes in one-size fits all, and folk don't come that way in spite of the wish and hope and mistreatment of and by plenty.
There was also no sex 'til more than 1 hr into the story, and the tale is only 2 hrs long. I can appreciate the slow buildup, but the book excerpt made it seem like this story had a higher level of heat. Sadly, it doesn't. Also, much of the story was a "nerd" becoming a less nerd or blossoming. I wish the author had instead been the type to being a nerd just as good as a non-nerd or jock in being a person who is wanted and desired. Sadly, so stereotypical. As a result, once Blake admitted an attraction to Jason, it was hard to believe. And "prick" is not a sexy term. Once the sex started, the one scene lasted almost all of the last hour of the story. The sex scene was warm, sweet, and sexy, the start of something new. Also, I quickly tired of the constant hashtag "jokes." Additionally, I saw the small twist in the story before it was revealed. It's likely that many listeners/readers will too.
On the up side, Jason's sister seemed like a great sis.
