Loved everything. A walk down memory lane. I read this book in 1978 as a young woman of 24. I am 70 now. I enjoyed it so much!!!!

I am just recently discovering Bertrice Small over the last two years. What a phenomenal author. I see that this was written in 1978. I wish that I had known of her as a young lady. Such entertainment and wisdom of the world would have been so appreciated back then. I can’t even describe this book and the sequel!!

This is my favorite of all the Bertrice Small books. The narration was outstanding. If you are put off by the spice but enjoy the history and detail woven into her stories then this is the one for you.

So glad to finally have this in an audio book. I had to speed up to 1.5 because the narrator spoke so slowly. I would have loved it if there were both a female and a male narrator but just being able to listen to this book has made me very happy.

A story I have enjoyed rereading through the years and now a treat to listen to. Please give us Love Wild and Fair. 🤞 Bertrice Small is my favorite HR author. 🤩

Janet Leslie might be the only other heroine to rival the indomitable Skye O’Malley. If you have not read the O’Malley saga, I highly recommend reading it after completing this duet. The late and great Bertrice Small will not be for everyone, and I can respect that. The romance is as hard-hitting as it is captivating. She doesn't shy away from depicting the raw and often harsh realities of love and power in a historical context. The relationships are layered, showcasing the passion and pain. Small masterfully integrates romantic elements into a broader historical narrative, creating a story that is both deeply personal and epic in scope.

Worth the credit! Jessica Bright delivered a solid performance. I recommend speeding up the reading pace for all of Small’s audiobooks. I typically listen between 1.7-2x speed. A massive thank you to Audible. Additionally, shoutout to one of my favorite audiobook publishers, Tantor Audio, for recording some of my favorite authors with quality productions.
