Publisher's summary

Cloverleah Pack Series, Book Two.

Griff Matthews knew he looked like trouble but for a wolf shifter mechanic he was fairly laid back most of the time. Pleased that his Alpha was finally settled with his new mate, Griff longs to meet the man of his dreams. Little did he know he would find it that same evening, when he was too drunk to realize that his good looking hook-up was actually his mate. Problem is when he woke up sober his bed was empty.

Derrick “Diablo” Franklin was just looking for a hook up with a like minded shifter. The sexy cat shifter was deep undercover for the FBI and although his case was coming to an end, he had hopes for his career that didn’t involve finding a mate. However after meeting Griff Diablo realized his plans might have to change.

But nothing is easy for the two men as they battle the FBI, a crime lord from Baton Rouge and a host of contenders looking to take Diablo away from Griff. And just who is Angel Bandures?

Please note this is book two of the Cloverleah Pack series. It can be listened to as a standalone, but you will learn more about the characters and story line if you listen to book one, The Reluctant Wolf as well.

Enjoyable but not necessary to enjoy future books

I loved the first book and initially skipped this one in the series because it didn't sound as appealing when I read the synapsis of the book. Around book 4 I circled back to get this one because I felt like I was missing something. It's not my favorite but it was still good. I don't think it is necessarily needed to enjoy the other books.

The storyline that I felt I was missing was Diablo's place in the cat shifters hierarchy. However, that storyline is not included in this book. It turns out it is in one of the supplemental books (book 9.5) that is not on audio. It is available on Kindle for $3.99 with other short stories.

The parts that are referred to in future books is Griff and Diablo's ties to FBI, Griff's alter ego, Angel, and the last two or three chapters with the Alpha Mating Ceremony. After listening to this one I feel that the brief references in the future books were enough and I wasn't really missing anything.

I have now listened to all books in this series that are available in audio. By the time you get to books 5 & 6, it gets annoying how every reference to incidents in prior books are then provided an explanation/description of the incident.

I haven't had time to read all of the .5 stories. But the one I did read filled in the blanks of time that were omitted from the corresponding book. The corresponding book included the premise which is understandable but also included the after in the epilogue. It would have been better to just include it with the original book. I like audiobooks because I can listen while I am working, driving and/or running errands.

It has been years since i read the entire series and i sat last weekend and read them all. All inspired by hearing this book and and wanting to connect with the characters again.

Fantastic story! Enjoy

Great addition to the series - enemies to lovers!

I love Griff and Diablo as a couple! They are so unique and have such a great partnership. One has the larger animal, the other the larger human. This gives them a unique perspective as a couple.

I have to admit, I really hate how Diablo was treated for the first half of the book , and re-reading it hurt my heart. But… I love how he finds his own and then some! – by the end of the book.

We get to see some of the pack dynamics as Kane acts in ways that aren’t perfect. But this is important because it’s this formation of the pack bonds that sets the tone for how this pack will behave in the future.

One of they dynamics I love about this couple is really well illustrated in the end, at the mating ceremony. Diablo and Griff are really equals and Diablo won’t just sit by to let the 60! –contenders fight for him. But then Griff has something to say about it … and so on. So much fun and sexy too!

I love the use of magic we see as well as the time the characters spend in their shifted forms and how that affects them in their human state. Look past the covers and into this series if you haven’t. I highly recommend it to shifter fans!

Narration

I think this is a good way to enjoy this series. The narrator does a good job with giving everyone distinct voices and tries to convey the emotion or tension in the story very well. Recommended

i love this series.. but

i own everything lisa oliver writes on kindle, and eapecially this series which i have read through several times. This book was a nightmare to sit through.. i get that Lisa is not in the US and as such some of her terminology is a bit different.. even for a series set in the US.. i.e. the repeated use of arse instead of the American version of ASS. However.. when you are going to record these books for audible.. it would be really nice to at least learm the pronunciation of an American city that is repeated no less that 50 times.. every single time i heard the reader say "Bait-un rouge" instead of Bat-on rouge" it made me cringe and eventually annoyed me so much i couldnt handle it anymore. Some words may vary in pronunciation, i.e. tomato/tomahto but the name of a city?other words like Mangy which he pronounged with a hard G were annoying but the city thing drove me nuts ... at least bother to spend 3 minutes on google to find the right pronunciation...

Wonderful Book

The book is a wonderful book and gets 5 stars. The performance though, I found myself turning it off and switching to another audible. John York has a nice voice, but for Griff or even Diablo’s voice he was the wrong choice in bringing them to life. If it was me I’d have chosen either Michael Pauley, Greg Boudreaux, Michael Lesley, or Joel Leslie.

I prefer the print over audio

So I really like Lisa’s stories and I enjoy this series in particular. However, I really do not like the narration on this story, especially Diablo and Baton Rouge.

I really enjoy the story of these two men finding what they didn’t think was possible. I love how Diablo aims Griff without his knowledge.

One big issue I have with the writing, and it keeps me from giving 5 stars, is that the story is set in the US with US-based packs and characters but there are very different terms used (bonnet/arse). While I was hoping to listen to the available books in the series, I think I will stick to reading them so the audio doesn’t disappoint me.

Awful

The narration is contrived and irritating. Poor diction and a mediocre story make this unlistenable.
