About this listen

It's lonely for an extrovert on Risda III, the human refuge on the edge of the universe. Maeve craves company and friends, but she knows she can't keep harassing the locals for attention. What she needs is a pet to love on.

What she gets is . . . a stowaway. Sorta. Zhur is actually a praxiian prince on the run, and the cat alien needs a place to hide out. Maybe not this place, though, because it smells and it has animals and all his bespoke clothes are missing. He needs to get out of here . . .

Except he can't, because he's stranded without a credit to his name.

They're going to have to work together to fix things. Luckily for Zhur, Maeve has a plan. Maeve always has a plan. Unluckily for Zhur, most of Maeve's plans are bad . . .

And this latest plan ends up with them being married?!?

Contains mature themes.

It was we’ll rounded with everything a good book needs

Loved how detailed the story was, it made you laugh and cry. Two very different beings meant for each other

It's Spicy and Sweet

There were things that could have been edited better. But Ruby Dixon is the queen of spice and that genre is not expected to be well edited. I still enjoyed it. It was a little too long and cliché tall man with huge you know what. Overall, if you don't mind any of that, go for it.

I love Maeve!

Her marriage to Zhur was unconventional (marriage of convenience) but it ended up being perfect for them. And granted, Zhur started out as a pompous asshole, but he ended up being so sweet in the end.

Lord Hairball’s happily ever after

Zuhr “so, you’re not my servant?”
Maeve “so, you’re not my cat?”
This was the cutest enemies to lovers story.

Maeve “is this blackmail?”
Zuhr “I don’t know, is it?”
Where did the time go? This is on the long side for a Risdaverse book, but that allows a deeper story about what true happiness is. The length also accommodates characters from other recently released books (Only the Clonely and When She’s Shy), not to mention a slew of cameos from other MCs in the series.

“You need to hug some cows.”
I loved that this was upbeat pretty much the whole way thru. I also liked that it mixed the formula up, both by featuring a Praxiian and taking the story off world in the second half. I needed this feel good story.

Lonely Extrovert Meets Privileged Prince

Overall I have found the Risdaverse series to be lower angst fairly middling in the Rubyverse. The stories feel slightly more one note with a formula where Ruby creates a character around a flaw or struggle and that's the story. This although longer with more time to flesh things out felt more far fetched than some of the others. It was fine and it moves along but I was not particularly drawn to any of the characters in the story but not repelled either just no strong feelings either way. It continues to be interesting to learn more about the politics of the larger world but this felt the most Hallmark Royal Romance, easy to have in the background but not terribly memorable. The narration from Mason is always solid, Jillian is not my favorite but she still did well with the story.

Good overall story

Too many X Scenes and not enough story.
Five freaking chapters of it I mean yes it's okay but this is a bit obsessive.
