After yet another 2:00am delivery of $60.00 worth of Sushi I quietly ordered, while trying not to wake up my Fiancé and Infant, I was filled with shame. That all-to familiar uncontrollable urge to end the night with something sweet hit again. What would it be tonight? Honey buns? A cream cheese filled danish? Why not Both? Burritos and taquitos were my "kryptonite" while I told my friends and family that I was eating healthy. I just did not know why I was gaining weight. I decided something needed to change. This wasn't fair for my child, my fiancé, and most of all myself and my own mental health. At 21 years old, I was diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder. I was also exhibiting symptoms of disordered eating patterns, which then progressed to binge eating disorder. The uncontrollable urge to binge was at its greatest, and the weight kept piling on. The shame I felt kept me from speaking out to my loved ones and was detrimental to my mental health. Determined to get into a healthier state of mind, I took things into my own hands. Through my own studies and a number of college curricula on psychology and related subjects, I was able to take off nearly 100 pounds of weight in the process over the last couple of years. I am in a much better space mentally and physically and wanted to both share and help others achieve their own goals towards living a happy, healthy life.
