Anneliese A. Singh, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor at The University of Georgia in the Counseling and Human Development Services department. Dr. Singh received her Ph.D. in counseling psychology from Georgia State University. She is the coordinator of the Counselor Education doctoral program and organizes the writing and research components of this program. Dr. Singh is passionate about supporting student and early career professionals develop their academic writing skills and learn to develop their own voice. She has conducted numerous seminars and workshops on academic writing at the graduate level, in addition to teaching writing courses at the doctoral level. Dr. Singh is a prolific writer, with over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles, chapters, group activities, and media publications and numerous awards for her scholarship. Dr. Singh is a past President of the Association of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Issues in Counseling (ALGBTIC) where her Presidential Initiatives including the development of counseling competencies for working with transgender clients in counseling, supporting queer people of color, and ensuring safe schools for lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, and questioning youth. Dr. Singh is a co-founder of the Georgia Safe Schools Coalition, an organization that works at the intersection of heterosexism, racism, sexism, and other oppressions to create safe school environments in Georgia, and has been honored with over 11 national awards for her work in community-building. She also founded the Trans Resilience Project to translate findings from her over 10 years of research on the resilience that transgender people develop to navigate societal oppression. She is a co-PI on a multi-site (Atlanta, New York, San Francisco) NIH longitudinal study investigating transgender identity development, risk, and resilience. Dr. Singh’s previous books are Qualitative Inquiry in Clinical and Educational Settings (co-authored with Dr. Danica G. Hays), Social Justice and Group Work: Practical Interventions for Change (co-edited by Dr. Carmen Salazar), Affirmative Counseling and Psychological Practice with Transgender and Gender Nonconforming Clients (co-edited with Dr. Lore M. Dickey), and Graduate Academic Writing in Social and Behavioral Sciences: Finding Your Own Voice (co-edited with Dr. Lauren Lukkarila). Dr. Singh actively works on being a better ally to transgender people and developing empowering spaces for people of color who have survived sexual abuse, and has worked on initiatives to end child sexual abuse in South Asian/Indian communities. Dr. Singh is a Sikh American and passionately believes in and strives to live by the ideals of Dr. King’s beloved community, as well as Audre Lorde’s quote: “Without community, there is no liberation.”
