David Marion Wilkinson is a novelist, nonfiction author, and screenwriter. His works have met with commercial and critical distinction. His first novel, NOT BETWEEN BROTHERS won the Violet Crown Award from Barnes & Noble and the Writers’ League of Texas. Brothers was also a “Best Novel of the West” Spur Award finalist, and was selected “Editor’s Choice” by the Review of Texas Books, which called the book “the best historical novel about Texas published in more than a decade.” David's other novels include THE EMPTY QUARTER, OBLIVION'S ALTAR (winner of the 2003 Spur Award for Best Original Paperback Novel and finalist for the Oklahoma Book Award), and the newly updated WHERE THE MOUNTAINS ARE THIEVES. He teamed up with legendary Texas Ranger Joaquin Jackson to co-author ONE RANGER, Jackson's wildly successful memoir.. All five books are now, or have been in development with major film, network, and cable concerns. A veteran screenwriter himself, David has worked on numerous film projects, including TEXAS RISING, the History Channel’s ten-part miniseries on the Texas Revolution. He has written or co-written or helped develop a variety of feature-length films and limited series, including a Discovery Channel biopic based on the life of Laura Ingalls Wilder and her daughter, Rose Wilder Lane; a limited series based on President Thomas Jefferson and America’s first foreign war against the Barbary States; , and the story of King Abdul Aziz, the founder of Saudi Arabia and his relationship with Sir John Philby of the United Kingdom. David has also worked on The GRAY HOUSE, a six-hour limited series based on real-life female spies who helped bring down the Confederacy, is being produced by Kevin Costner and Morgan Freeman for Paramount. When he’s not writing, Wilkinson’s a popular speaker and writing instructor. He has taught a variety of fiction and nonfiction courses and seminars; he taught an accredited graduate course while serving as writer-in-residence at Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas. Wilkinson has either appeared or had his work featured in numerous media outlets, including National Public Radio (Nashville, Austin, and Tulsa) and Don Imus, the Dallas Morning News, San Antonio Express-News, Houston Chronicle, Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, Memphis Commercial Appeal, Arkansas Gazette, Texas Monthly, Southern Living, Cowboys and Indians, and True West. He and his wife, Martha, live in Austin, Texas.
