Gabrielle Smith (DrG), is a former high school Spanish teacher and juvenile probation officer. Originally from Arizona, she spent a small portion of her childhood in San Diego where she was first immersed in the Spanish language and Mexican culture through her school friends and weekend jaunts walking across the border to Tijuana. Always living her life in color, Mexico truly grabbed her by the heartstrings in 2000 when she participated in a Spanish Language Immersion program in Cuernavaca, Mexico where she learned more than just the language. She learned where she belonged. Over the course of her adult life, she’s lived in four U.S. states, Washington, D.C., and now, Mexico City, Mexico. Some of her favorite things in the world are being Catholic, traveling, the color lime green, dog rescue (including her own, a thirteen-year-old rescue mix born in her closet while she was fostering the mother, and her “Mexican street rat” she picked up outside her daily coffee shop on Dia de los Muertos in 2020), reading, writing, and her nephew. She dreams of writing more, bridging cultural differences, and starting a non-profit to take young adults who have never traveled outside of their hometowns to see the world.
