John Freeman is a San Diego-based accomplished writer, editor and communicator who consults with his clients in public relations, media relations and marketing. Since 2019, he has written seven self-published, as-told-to books with notable San Diegans, told in a first-person narrative format, most recently Ted Talks with popular sports personality Ted Leitner. In 2014, he collaborated on They Called Me God, Simon & Schuster with Hall of Fame baseball umpire Doug Harvey. A graduate of the University of Arizona, John also spent five years in New York City as staff editor/writer with the Yankees and later, as publications director of the National Basketball Association. He returned to San Diego to spend 15 years as a nationally syndicated media columnist and sportswriter with the Union-Tribune. His professional background also includes marketing/communications roles with national firms in wind energy and luxury yachting, as well as with UC San Diego Extension. John Freeman’s style captures the essence of people, events and causes, conveyed with an easily accessible touch and always with clarity, texture, flair, and accuracy.
