Niki Kapsambelis was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. She worked for several years as a newswoman for the Associated Press in New England, Los Angeles, and Pittsburgh. Her work has appeared in publications around the world, including The Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, and People magazine. She has covered stories as varied as the U.S. presidential primaries, the Emmy awards, and the O.J. Simpson murder trial -- but she was most drawn to stories about ordinary people who find themselves in extraordinary circumstances. It was that curiosity that drove her to follow the DeMoe family of North Dakota, the heroes of "The Inheritance," for more than five years while she simultaneously traced the thread of Alzheimer's research from its early 20th century roots to the present day.
