As an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) practitioner, Shahid Akhtar offers a unique combination of experience, skills and qualifications. He is the founder of Conciliators Without Borders, an organization dedicated to education of stakeholders in non-confrontational resolution of disputes and promotion of harassment free work environment. He has developed a unique 7 Step process to resolving costly confrontational conflicts and dealing with complex workplace problems and is the author of “The 7Cs Compass for Conflict Resolution-A Practical Guide for Real ADR” available on both Amazon.com and Amazon.ca. Having been trained in Law, he has worked as Journalist, TV Host, Mediator, Facilitator and Coordinator of Harassment Prevention activities and resolved large number of longstanding disputes and developed strategies to remedy dysfunctional relationships. Shahid worked for 25 years in Human Resources of a large public sector organization and now practices as mediator and educator. He has trained more than 10,000 professionals, managers, staff, lawyers, judges and community stakeholders in techniques of preventing harassment and discrimination, resolving conflicts, conducting mediation, creating a model workplace, advancing diversity and developing cultural sensitivity in the workplace. Since co-founding the Canadian Association of Jews and Muslims 22 years ago he has been actively engaged in promoting a Canadian model of understanding and positive communication and bridging the divides between faith and intercultural communities. He has often appeared in media current affairs programs. Shahid has addressed the Parliament of World Religions and a large European Union Delegation visiting the United Nations about deep-rooted inter-faith conflicts and was the Keynote Speaker at the North American Interfaith Network Conference held in Toronto. He also offers pro-bono services resolving conflicts in family, business, community and interfaith settings.
