Editorial Reviews
Created Especially for Audible
Author David Hewson is behind some of my favorite "audio-first" projects like Macbeth: A Novel and Hamlet, Prince of Denmark: A Novel in which he and co-creator A. J. Hartley brilliantly re-imagined two of Shakespeare's classics. Last Seen Wearing is something quite different and is even more audio-centric. Here, Hewson, in this full-cast production, takes on NYC with a crime story unlike anything else you've listened to. If you're a fan of TV shows featuring cops, PI's, and detectives you'll want to check this one out. Warning: If listening while driving, take care to ignore random sirens and car horns—you're not (likely) getting pulled over by the fuzz or being tailgated by an 18-wheeler.
Stay far, FAR AWAY from that perfect-sounding apartment!
You know the expression "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is"? You can multiply that by about 1,000 for real estate. And when you’re in the hands of suspense master K. L. Slater (The Mistake, The Liar), it’s time to run, not walk, from the beautifully restored two-bedroom flat in prime Kensington Gardens that the owner is offering on a "pay what you can" basis. Unfortunately, Freya Miller is in a tight spot—after the disastrous breakup of her marriage, she’s now the sole caretaker of her young daughter, and she leaps at the chance. But who is her mysterious new landlord, what terrible tragedy do the neighbors seem to know about, and why does Freya feel like her family is being watched? With dual narration from Tuppence Middleton, who stars in the upcoming Downton Abbey film, and John Chancer, this utterly devourable treat will keep you guessing until the last moment.
👏 I. Loved. This. Story!
I love stories that defy expectations. Stories that when someone describes you think Maybe I should check it out...
but deliver in ways that you can’t see coming. Evil Eye is that story. It’s a mother-daughter story. It’s told through a series of long distance calls, making it perfect for the audio format. There are pedestrian conversations that feel familiar, even ordinary. Then it comes with a right hook of a twist and a roundhouse of a turn and you land in a place you couldn’t have predicted – all in a tight 90 mins. Yes, please and thank you!

All alone and scared to death
The modern updates to classic horror tales in this audio drama each have a common thread more terrifying than any murderer or demon: no one believes the one who has seen the true face of evil. The scariest aspect of each story is the all too human feeling of disbelief, of helplessness, of knowing something ghastly has been revealed to you – and that you have the impossible task of trying to convince your colleagues, friends, or family that something is seriously wrong. Sure, the expertly crafted sound design and perfectly understated acting wound the tension piano-string tight, but what truly frightened me was the unsettling feeling that real horror comes from the loneliness of knowing pure evil.
