Story
The Yoruba people come from an ancient culture whose homeland lies in present-day Nigeria. In their religion, numerous deities are present and active in our daily lives, like the supreme being Olodumare and the divine Orishas. Authenticity, sincerity, discipline, and respect are of utmost importance, and spirits speak directly to us in their own metaphorical language.

Info in book is awesome... the narrator's mispronouncing almost every single Yoruba word was so distracting....

Please get someone else to narrate... someone who is familiar with the language. it's borderline disrespectful to have such an important aspect of the book butchered....

Story
The voice of the divine is as near to you as your own breath, just ask. That's what Reverend Deborah L. Johnson did in 1995. In a moment of darkness, there was nothing she could do but surrender. "Take me now, oh Lord." Almost instantly she heard whispers, and they turned into more than 300 letters from Spirit.

Love the book. Definately feel as though it's a must read. Also love the author. Grateful for the ability to listen to it through the audio version as I drive...just know, the narration is very...very...(extremely) theatrical. If I had listened before reading, I probably would have been turned off if I'm honest. If you listen first and find yourself feeling resistant...please read the hard copy.

I listened because... with all of the controversy I wanted to get a clearer understanding. I was definitely enlightened! Important lesson...be very, very slow to judge the journey of others. The book was thought provoking ...and enlightening on a number of levels. Narration left a little to be desired... but overall I highly recommend it!

Tiffany can't avoid being funny: it's just who she is. But The Last Black Unicorn is so much more than a side-splittingly hilarious collection of essays - it's a memoir of the struggles of one woman who came from nothing and nowhere. A woman who was able to achieve her dreams by reveling in her pain and awkwardness, showing the world who she really is, and inspiring others through the power of laughter.

HeLa cells were vital for developing the polio vaccine; uncovered secrets of cancer, viruses, and the atom bomb’s effects.

The author allowed herselfb to be vulnerable and I the process freed me to acknowledge my own humaness authentically without shame. One I will definitely listen to many times.
