A desperate Kremlin takes advantage of a military crisis in Asia to simultaneously strike into Western Europe and invade east Africa in a bid to occupy three rare Earth mineral mines that will give Russia unprecedented control over the world's hi-tech sector for generations to come. Pitted against the Russians are a Marine lieutenant colonel pulled out of a cushy Pentagon job, a French Special Forces captain and his intelligence operative father, a young Polish partisan fighter, an A-10 Warthog pilot, and the commander of an American tank platoon....

This novel was well read and written even better. The fast pass was exciting and kept the listener engaged.
It was sometimes difficult to follow all the different arcs but did not detract from the overall enjoyment of the presentation.

Story
Five years ago, the US Space Force became a reality. And while those writing the checks took things very seriously, the other military branches did not. As a result, Space Force was populated by undesirables. My name is Captain Ethan Stone, a decorated member of SEAL Team Six turned Space Force "recruit". Flash forward five years and between tenses. President West is in office. Power has shifted. And Space Force is defunded. With just a handful of us still living on base, we find ourselves being evicted. But before all of us can leave, aliens invade.

Read was performed well but poor story line
Reviewed: 05-19-19
The narration was good and they tried to inject humour into a dull story. The novel would be very difficult to read in a standalone version. It was very fast paced and st times seemed to get lost.

Story
War heroes aren't usually called out of semi-retirement and sent to the far reaches of the galaxy for a routine investigation. So when Colonel Carl Butler answers the call from an old and powerful friend, he knows it's something big - and he's not being told the whole story. A high councilor's son has gone MIA out of Cappa Base, the space station orbiting a battle-ravaged planet. The young lieutenant had been wounded and evacuated - but there's no record of him having ever arrived at hospital command.

Story
Set in an alternate 1950s in which General MacArthur ignites a nuclear war that nearly destroys the planet. Not only is the outcome of the world's first nuclear war still to be determined, as the Americans and Russians continue to sling death at each other, but there remains the question of how hard it will be for humanity to rebuild itself from the ashes of destruction that this war has wrought. For can a victor truly be declared when all of humanity has paid the price?

Would you try another book from Daniel Arenson and/or Jeffrey Kafer?
This is a tough question as I very much liked the first book in this series, yet this one really let the side down. I have the third book in my wish list but have yet convinced myself to purchase it.
Has Earth Lost turned you off from other books in this genre?
Yes quite possibly. It would seem that the book suddenly turned into a homage to Starship Troopers and this I did not enjoy.
What about Jeffrey Kafer’s performance did you like?
The reading was fine, but lacked emotion

What does Ray Porter bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Dragging and disjointed story-line

Is there anything you would change about this book?
The story jumped between numerous arks and there was no real clear definition as to when this was happening. The premise of the book was interesting but the ending is obviously intended for the second book in a series
What could Andrew J. Morgan have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
The book is overburdened with arks and the like. It was very difficult to follow in some parts
What about Victor Bevine’s performance did you like?
The reading was fine, not overly enthusiastic but fine
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
No

This book starts of a bit slowly and while I normally enjoy Ray Porter narration, he did struggle with this one.
The overall premise was a bit out there, and it to me, the ending was rushed and not thought out. Some of the themes are repetitive in nature but the back stories to the characters was good.

This is an interesting book for an SF fans in particular those who like a good laugh and expanded thought. I very much enjoyed the reading by Ray Porter and this brought a new level of enjoyment. I would rate it similar to the Expeditionary Force novels by Craig Alanson, and there are similarities between Bob and the Beer Can.
I would recommend this to somebody who wants a light hearted easily digestible novel.
Looking forward to listening to more books in the series
