About this listen

The highly anticipated sequel to Audible's Best of 2016 - Science Fiction winner, We Are Legion (We Are Bob); a book listeners are calling "so much fun", "what science fiction was meant to be", and what would happen if "Andy Weir and Ernest Cline had a lovechild".

Bob Johansson didn't believe in an afterlife, so waking up after being killed in a car accident was a shock. To add to the surprise, he is now a sentient computer and the controlling intelligence for a Von Neumann probe.

Bob and his copies have been spreading out from Earth for 40 years now, looking for habitable planets. But that's the only part of the plan that's still in one piece. A system-wide war has killed off 99.9 percent of the human race; nuclear winter is slowly making the Earth uninhabitable; a radical group wants to finish the job on the remnants of humanity; the Brazilian space probes are still out there, still trying to blow up the competition; and the Bobs have discovered a spacefaring species that sees all other life as food.

Bob left Earth anticipating a life of exploration and blissful solitude. Instead he's become a sky god to a primitive native species, the only hope for getting humanity to a new home, and possibly the only thing that can prevent every living thing in the local sphere from ending up as dinner.

Listener favorite Ray Porter returns to narrate Bob - and his many incarnations - in all of their geeky glory.

For We Are Many is the second installment in the blockbuster Audible Original Bobiverse series - which has sold more than one million copies.

This book was too short!

What did you like best about this story?

Love the Bobiverse! I enjoy the slight differences of each iteration of Bob and seeing how each of them makes their own mark on the universe. Despite being an artificial intelligence, I still feel a connection with the Bob characters and often feel like they react in ways similar to how I would. (They are also just as geeky) The struggle of being an AI and essentially an immortal is also an interesting theme as well as his struggle with duty to the human race and other life throughout the universe.

What does Ray Porter bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Ray Porter does a good job with different voices for each character. There are even some subtle differences between Bobs despite them being almost identical copies.

Any additional comments?

I can't wait for book three!

Middle book syndrome

This book feels a lot like back to the future two. If moves the overall plot along but if you didn't start with book one you would be missing a lot.

Great book!, bad audio quality! hissssss

I loved the book, and story was awesome, this is great sci-fi!. But one thing that gave me cringes throughout the book was the audio. It just felt low quality compare to the previous book. There is a lot of hissing when the narrator talks. Hopefully we can get a revise audio book.

As good as the first

I was worried that Taylor wasn't going to capture the magic that he did with the first book in this series. He absolutely did. I couldn't pause the book, I had to sit through it all in one go. Everything you like about the first book continues as the plot thickens and we see what other threats the galaxy has to offer.

Excellent performance as well. Porter brings all the Bobs' personalities to life.

An exciting continuation

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I loved that there were more Bob's in this story, but there were a couple points where I think I missed the transition and I didn't realize which Bob we were with, so while it's great to have them all, there were a few moments of confusion for me.

Which character – as performed by Ray Porter – was your favorite?

I am not so secretly in love with Ray Porter, so he can do anything, and I would love it. I think that he did an excellent job, per usual.

Any additional comments?

I think the production value of this book wasn't as good as last time. There were some clear points were the narration was poorly cut, and Ray sounds like he's sitting farther from the mic for a minute or two and then it goes back to normal. This happens a lot, but while it doesn't take away from the book, it's noticeable enough to be a little distracting.

I still loved the book, I think it was a little anti-climactic compared to the previous one, but I will definitely listen to the next one.

Absolutely Fantastic! Just as Fun as the 1st Book

What made the experience of listening to For We Are Many the most enjoyable?

Definitely the narrator, Ray Porter. I love him as "Bob" and he makes the story fun and enjoyable. The author, Dennis E Taylor sure hit a home run with this series. It is unbelievably witty and I also love the very rich and complicated universe in which the "Bobiverse" exists in. This took some incredible imagination and creativity. LOVE IT!

What other book might you compare For We Are Many to and why?

I can't compare this book to any other. This book, and the series, is truly one of a kind. I hate the cliché but it is certainly true in this case. The We are Legion (We are Bob) and For We are Many: Bobiverse books are unique and stand alone.

What about Ray Porter’s performance did you like?

Everything! I feel that he is what made this audiobook so good. His inflections and emphasis are spot on. "Bob" could not have been performed by anyone else.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

No tag line that I would come up with could do this book justice. Let Dennis E Taylor come up with a tag line. It would be just as phenomenal as his book titles!

Any additional comments?

This is a must listen to audiobook. I've enjoyed the series sooooo much. The second book is exactly in line with the first book. I have listen to so many audiobooks over the last four or so years and this is my favorite series so far.
