The author did an amazing job in this story and I read every moment I could. This was not predictable and kept me wanting more.

Amy Harmon did a great job in this story. I am a pioneer fan, and this was not the ordinary pioneer story. Well worth the listen!

The story of Deborah Samson during the revolution showed how frustrating it was for her to have been born a woman and being restrained by that because of societal norms. She did impersonate a man and proved that she was capable of what men do and even more effectively, but given time, she found that God did have a perfect mate for her and her struggle worked itself out because she waited for the right person to come along and her life became complete. She later was able to tell her story.

I recommend this story to anyone who’s bored with some of the same story historical pioneer fictions. This had a plot that was exciting enough to keep you listening, but different enough that it didn’t feel like you were listening to all the other clean historical fiction novels which tend to be predictable and boring.

The ending shows a faithful God despite the evil that happens in this world. It opened my eyes to what people who are indifferent and do nothing can enable.

This book keeps you on your toes. The jumping from person perspective to earlier history and the modern era and how it all came around to be was very well thought out and I commend the author. Spiritually speaking, it demonstrates the racism of different immigrants and it all boils down to the same issues that we have today. Sin and the result of unrepentant sin visiting for generations even when we believe our sin has no repercussions. A lovely story that I will surely read again.

This is good for an old soul or a mature reader. It shows how all thing do work for good, even bad. I give it 4 stars because it isn’t quite the page turner or attention grabber that some of Ms Wingates titles are. I still think it’s well worth the read.
