Delightful rom com
Reviewed: 11-26-24
Caroline has been a sheltered and pampered lady for her 21 years, despite the fact that her father came from the working class. He developed plumbing systems enjoyed by the Queen and was given an Earlship! They must have been good! So she’s a mix of earnestness and determination to do right, supporting suffrage and the protection of horses. Brandon grew up in 7 Dials but was rescued by a judge who assigned him to work for a gun manufacturer. He is now wealthy and famous for his success with women. They become entangled due to Caroline’s brother and his ill fated involvement in gambling. It’s fun and funny with lots of misunderstandings, but also deeply romantic and satisfying.

Story
Determined to locate a kidnapped dog, Michael Bromley, Duke of Woriton, isn’t thrilled to be saddled with a flighty female insisting on helping, except that Bitsy has a great deal more sense than he expected—and a sharp tongue to match. Still, what’s a scientist to do but continue to pursue an outcome, however unexpected it may be? But chemistry is all about attraction, and this is one formula with some hilariously romantic results.

Mark Meadows makes this fun story memorable
Reviewed: 06-09-24
I always like the play of opposites. Who could be more different from the society darling and diamond of two seasons than a rude, antisocial Duke only interested in science? Bitsy is warm, gracious and beautiful. Michael is tall, formidable and downright offensive. He doesn’t believe that anyone in the ton is worthy of his time or attention. Bitsy/Elizabeth is kind and welcoming to everyone. But when first one black poodle is stolen and then a second one, Elizabeth and the dour Michael team up to recover them and find that opposites produce electricity! Darling and fun. Mark Meadows superbly portrays all the eccentric and often lovable characters in the ‘poodlegate’.

Story
Clever, popular, and deliciously shocking, the ladies’ periodical Mrs. Goode’s Magazine for Misses only employs women who are equal to the challenge—and sometimes the challenge includes romance. As the daughter of a clergyman, Julia Addison knows she’ll never be able to fulfill her lifelong dream of acting on the stage. But writing forthright reviews of the Season’s most popular plays for Mrs. Goode’s Magazine for Misses, popularly known as Goode’s Guide to Misconduct, is surely the next best thing.

Travelers in the Third Reich is an extraordinary history of the rise of the Nazis based on fascinating firsthand accounts, drawing together a multitude of voices and stories, including politicians, musicians, diplomats, schoolchildren, communists, scholars, athletes, poets, fascists, artists, tourists, and even celebrities like Charles Lindbergh and Samuel Beckett. Their experiences create a remarkable three-dimensional picture of Germany under Hitler - one so palpable that the listener will feel, hear, even breathe the atmosphere.

Interesting to see how much optimism and hope for peace allowed thugs to take over the country. ‘Maybe they will settle down!’ Hitler & co started with a lot of razzle dazzle but quickly turned to desperation for the Germans. They bet the farm on Hitler and lost everything.
