About this listen

ALA Alex Award, Winner

“Bridgerton fans will swoon over this entertaining romp through Britain’s Regency-era high society.”—People

"A Lady's Guide to Fortune Hunting is a sharp, modern, and absolutely delicious take on the marriage plot. Sophie Irwin's debut is one of the most fun, romantic books I've read in a long time. I cannot wait to see what she does next."—Taylor Jenkins Reid, New York Times bestselling author of Malibu Rising

A whip-smart debut that follows the adventures of an entirely unconventional heroine who throws herself into the London Season to find a wealthy husband. But the last thing she expects is to find love…

Kitty Talbot needs a fortune. Or rather, she needs a husband who has a fortune. Left with her father’s massive debts, she has only twelve weeks to save her family from ruin.

Kitty has never been one to back down from a challenge, so she leaves home and heads toward the most dangerous battleground in all of England: the London season.

Kitty may be neither accomplished nor especially genteel—but she is utterly single-minded; imbued with cunning and ingenuity, she knows that risk is just part of the game.

The only thing she doesn’t anticipate is Lord Radcliffe. The worldly Radcliffe sees Kitty for the mercenary fortune-hunter that she really is and is determined to scotch her plans at all costs, until their parrying takes a completely different turn….

This is a frothy pleasure, full of brilliant repartee and enticing wit—one that listeners will find an irresistible delight.

Enjoyed

I have no idea why so many people have such a strong opinion of this book. Is it predictable? Yes but most romances are. It is also enjoyable and worth the read or listen. I’m glad I didn’t listen to the negative reviews.

Give it a chance!

This book oozes into your person slowly. Honestly I was going to stop listening to this book after the sample because the selection didn’t stir much interest….but I kept listening and soon I was interested, then invested, then absolutely hooked. The book was excellent and moving and funny! It kept me glued; and even though I didn’t like Kitty when I met her I did understand her…by the end of the book I loved her fiercely.

Not a bad listen

A little predictable but, all and all a nice listen. Narrator is entertaining and story moves along at a good pace. Will be moving on to the 2nd book.

DEFINITION OF A ROMANCE IS AN HEA

Just because you expect at the beginning that a Romance will have a happy ending, doesn't make it predictable. This was very well written Fiction. I wasn't expecting a dull history book, I just wanted a few laughs and a good story. That, I got in spades - and hearts.
The dialogue was witty, and fun, the teen agers were believably young, and the emotions of all the characters were real and very believable.

I thought the author, while reminiscent of Jayne Auston, had a unique point of view, with a slightly more modern spin. I really don't care whether it is historically accurate or not. I just want to be entertained. I don't really want the realism of ladies picking their way across manure and filth-ridden streets while coughing their lungs out because of the smog and stench.

I love it when characters grow, emotionally, as they deal with what life throws at them.
Both main characters had a great weight of responsibility and the ways they handled it were unique.

Eleanore Tomlinson is a lovely storyteller. I will look for more of her narrations, and I will also be listening to the next book in this series.
