Story
The Bobiverse is a different place in the aftermath of the Starfleet War, and the days of the Bobs gathering in one big happy moot are far behind. There’s anti-Bob sentiment on multiple planets, the Skippies playing with an AI time bomb, and multiple Bobs just wanting to get away from it all. But it all pales compared to what Icarus and Daedalus discover on their 26,000-year journey to the center of the galaxy.

Optimistic universe
Reviewed: 01-15-25
In an age of dystopias, Dennis Taylor has created a galaxy of opportunities and progress. the Bobs and friends manage to overcome catastrophic problems while exhausting 90s tech bro references and just having fun with each other. I find it a nice escape from the modern world.

Whole new dimension of Howey
Reviewed: 08-10-24
Although I first learned of Hugh Howey through his novel Wool, short stories are in some ways more powerful than lengthy novels, and there are different, new topics and emotions here. Some of his influences become clearer. There aren’t many contemporary novelists that are important to me and reflect the times we live in, but Hugh is one. Read this!

This fiction feels very real and made me wonder what this part of Africa was like before colonization and Islamization, Nnedi wrote a great short story, hope to see more!

They connect to Outland - an alternate Earth with identical geology, but where humans never evolved. The group races to establish control of the portal before the government, the military, or evildoers can take it away. Then everything changes when the Yellowstone supervolcano erupts in an explosion large enough to destroy civilization and kill half the planet.

This was a lighter read than the Bobiverse, lots of sci-fi references, only problem was that the aliens just weren’t alien enough and they could converse so well with humans. But I guess ChatGPT showed that wasn’t so far-fetched!

July 25, 2234: The crew of the Adamura discovers the Anomaly. On the seemingly uninhabited planet Talos VII:a circular pit, 50 kilometers wide. Its curve not of nature, but design. Now, a small team must land and journey on foot across the surface to learn who built the hole and why. But they all carry the burdens of lives carved out on disparate colonies in the cruel cold of space. For some the mission is the dream of the lifetime, for others a risk not worth taking, and for one it is a desperate attempt to find meaning in an uncaring universe.

The plot didn’t make sense
Reviewed: 11-03-23
If this was such an unprecedented find, why would such an unprepared team be sent, and why would they want to go? Answers weren’t convincing enough and the main character seemed rather self-absorbed and whiny. I actually liked Pushkin more! Totally different from characters in Paolini’s other novel,”to sleep in a sea of stars” which I loved and thought this novel might continue in some way. There was no continuity at all. But there were some parts I liked. I think Hale is an excellent narrator, both in this book and the above one.

Story
Dr. Tyson Klein is a quantum physicist who has dedicated his entire life to his research. At CERN, he analyses data generated by the Large Hadron Collider, the world's biggest and most powerful particle accelerator. Now, Ty believes he's found a pattern in its output. It looks like an organised data stream, being broadcast over what he calls a quantum radio. Could it be a signal from another universe? A message sent from the future? Or something else entirely?
