Story
When Angela was young, before she came to realize she had a rare ability, she was a rather ordinary girl. At least, that was what everyone said. But Angela is anything but ordinary. The daughter of a meth addict, she is convinced she was born a freak. Haunted by an abusive childhood, she was forced to become a woman far too soon. And in the process, she became more.

Story
It was just a random mutation - one of a billion that happen in viruses every day. But this one was different. It exploded out of Somalia and spread across the oceans before anybody thought to look up from their cell phones to see what was going on. The infected breathed the virus into the air around them, spreading it through the cities faster than anyone thought possible. Hospitals were overwhelmed. Police lines crumbled. Quarantine sites disintegrated. Cities started to collapse.

Only 2 chapters of action
Reviewed: 08-21-23
Having read over a good thousand books, Laurel was my all time favorite author but around book 13 in her Anita series it has been just going down hill. Where you hung on every word I now find myself skipping 10-15 pages at a time. Her books went from a action packed never ending thrill as to where she was taking the story to nothing but talk of feelings about sex and relationships and straight up porn. The plot has almost completely disappeared. This is devastating as Mrs. Hamilton has one of THE most imaginative minds I've ever encountered... Heartbreaking

Story
Stephen Smith is the boy who did not exist. Born out of wedlock in the early 1960s, Steve's parents - both devout Catholics - had felt so 'shamed' by their son's illegitimate birth that they hid him away from the world by locking him in the cellar...for 13 years. Apart from a few admissions to hospital as a result of his 'imprisonment', Steve remained in the coal cellar of the family home where he was deprived of daylight, his childhood, school and human contact until he'd reached his teenage years.
