Story
Nineteen-year-old Signa Farrow, orphaned as a baby, has been raised by a string of guardians, each more interested in her wealth than her well-being—and each has met an untimely end. Her last remaining relatives are the Hawthornes, an eccentric family living at the glittering and gloomy estate of Thorn Grove. Thorn Grove’s patriarch, Elijah, mourns his late wife, Lillian, through wild parties and drink, while eldest son Percy grapples for control of the family’s waning reputation and daughter Blythe suffers from the same mysterious illness that killed her mother.

I loved the first book.
Reviewed: 05-10-25
I loved the first book, the second book not as much. This one needs to be DNF with an hour and 40-something minutes to go. I wish I had waited for it to come to my library app, so I didn’t have to waste a credit on it. I’m sorry to say that because I don’t mean any disrespect to the author..

Two words: Irish accent.
Reviewed: 05-07-25
Did I already mention his Irish accent though?? Wow. And duet narration is always my favorite. Fun palette cleanser before diving back into my usual genre.
I’d rather the characters didn’t use the Lord’s name in vain, but it actually makes sense.

I really wanted to love the end of the series

I’m really disappointed. One thing is I don’t need all these other perspectives and Queen Malena bothers the hell out of me and the FMC is annoying and I don’t know why authors in this genre think that we need an FMC who saves the entire world and heals the realms and heals this and does this and barely has any training but can fight everyone and has no training in warfare but is in charge and gets awe and adoration from her badass mate who becomes a total wimp by the end. I kept reading for Slade all the way through book 5, and then I started skipping a few chapters in book 6 rather than DNFing but then I’m three hours before the end and I just have to DNF. I just can’t. I just can’t. I keep rolling my eyes and saying, “Oh please.” This is torture officially.

I was really enjoying this, but I had to DNF at chapter 61
Reviewed: 03-29-25
There was a lot that I liked about this and I’m really disappointed. Don’t read on if you don’t want spoilers.
This female main character is like a mental patient and so dramatic and annoying and I almost had to stop in chapter 59 but I kept fast forwarding itand now I just can’t do it anymore. She’s practically catatonic and needs a mental institution and he needs a better woman. He’s always deserved about a better woman. And his character is why I kept reading.
I’m really bummed out that I have to stop reading about him because of her, but she’s constantly in her head and just too annoying for me.

Story
Only the extraordinary belong in the kingdom of Ilya—the exceptional, the empowered, the Elites. The powers these Elites have possessed for decades were graciously gifted to them by the Plague, though not all were fortunate enough to both survive the sickness and reap the reward. Those born Ordinary are just that—ordinary. And when the king decreed that all Ordinaries be banished to preserve his Elite society, lacking an ability suddenly became a crime—making Paedyn Gray a felon by fate and a thief by necessity.

My sister and I love this male narrator’s voice. I’m glad I read the book after my sister encouraged me. I had been putting it off because I was worried it would be disappointing after all the hype.
It was wonderful. I mostly really loved it.
There were some things that made me take stars off, Some of them were grammatical. I never understand how so many of these romantasy authors don’t understand what the objective form of a pronoun is. For example, sometimes she used the object of the preposition without error, but other times she didn’t. But why do no editors or proofreaders find the problem?
I’m typing this without my glasses on, It might look like a hot mess.

Story
There are whispers about what lurks in Witch Knell—the forest where sinners go to die. The villagers call it The Eating Woods because what's taken is never given back. Only those who've lost their senses would dare to go near it. Or the banished. Maevyth Bronwick knows better than to breach the misty labyrinth of trees, but a tragic turn of events compels her beyond the archway of bones to a boundary no mortal has crossed before. One that cloaks a dark and fantastical world that's as dangerous as it is alluring. It's there that he dwells, the cursed lord of Eidolon.
