Story
Heaven Commands, the Middle Kingdom Concedes. Or so the story goes. As Wu Ying travels beyond the kingdom of Shen chasing enlightenment, he experiences the truth of that statement. Disparate forms of government, new cultures, and people abound with new ways of cultivating towards immortality.

Slice of life cultivation
Reviewed: 02-09-23
I rarely write a review of books. But this one, this one I cannot help. This is one of the best cultivation books I have ever read.
It is just pure cultivation. No "chosen one", no "prevent end of world" and now "overpowered hero". Just cultivation. As he was banished, it is not about sect politics. Just cultivation. And I love it.
The path is weavy one, with successes and with failures, but MC has "outlook perspective" (sorry, don't know the right world in english], that every set back is just another step in cultivation. And that is part of life.
There is little of such books and how I long for more.

Much more wuxia than xianxia novel
Reviewed: 02-24-21
The story is very fast paced. The MC is overpowered like tiger in capybara's pasture. And there are very little notes about cultivation and how he can do, what he can do. To be on his level of cultivation with such power... explanation that he can do that because of his experience, it is too little background for my taste.
But as wuxia, the book is great. Fast pasted with tun of fighting. Without the cultivation theory (unfortunately that is one thing I am looking for ...]

Story
In this Hugo-nominated novel, an alien walks into a museum and asks if he can see a paleontologist. But the arachnid ET hasn't come aboard a rowboat with the Pope and Stephen Hawking (although His Holiness does request an audience later). Landing at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto, the spacefarer, Hollus, asks to compare notes on mass extinctions with resident dino-scientist Thomas Jericho.

Science, Philosophy And Theology in Sci-Fi Coat
Reviewed: 11-26-18
It was great. It make you thing about your own beliefs, it may expand your science knowledge as a side effect.
It takes different science fields (physics, evolution, physiology, etc) and by dialog with the outside elements leads to main point of the book: Does God exists or not? And if so, what is God role?
This main topic is made stronger for terminal illness of the main character.
The sci-fi elements were rather weak BUT that doesn't spoil the book for me, as it lead me to think deeply about the world. And I like it, when the books adds something to my life.
So in conclusion: If you are not afraid of thinking and evaluating your believes, it is fine choice. If you are looking for ease action pack sci-fi, this is not for you.

But Brenden's gift isolates him from people and from becoming part of a community - until the day he receives a personal invitation from the Wizard Od.

This is very fine work. This is fantasy in the best.
Not a disguised action. Not a first plan dream. Not a wish for miracle.
But great metaphor to today problem. In readable and enyoable form.

Briliant. The story is properly build with each book and with this great finish, where everything is wrapped. With space to dream (cannot say more due spoilers). That's reason for my title.
However, if there will be other book with only Eli's trickery, I will lisen it immediately, as he is very entertaining character :-)

Not a part of the original series
Reviewed: 09-16-15
The original three books was great. Very great at least for me.
So I expected similar deep story. Not the same style, not the same words, but similar plot weaving.
Yeah, even in original stories there were happening important things by coincidence but it didn't feel like it.
You will not find any important thing in this book, what isn't miracle coincidence.
Miracle because you have no inside why. You will have lot's of why without answers.
And when you will get over these, the ending will left you untisified. Every previous book has ending. Proper ending. Ending with closure. This one is cheep in my eyes, because it's wrapped up in 5 minutes. And with very visible hangover to build it up for next book. That I expect from long fantasy series but not from book in Millennium story.
