Story
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Can’t judge a book by its cover
Reviewed: 02-02-25
This was an amazing and inspiring story. Too many people try and pigeonhole people by race. This book goes to show that it isn’t as simple as people think. I know from experience from my own community that family culture, community culture and values have so much influence on our children. Please take a listen and see that there is more to JD than his whiteness and law degree. By the way, notice the date- his book is pre- Trump, so it has nothing to do with his present status and everything to do with the empathy he has with the working class.

Story
I'm a trained assassin. Enlisted by the Fae Corps and instructed to kill, there is no place in my life for a fated mate. Then Gia crashes into my life. Flashing eyes, luscious lips that beg to be kissed. One whiff of her sugary scent, and I know she is mine. But she's human, and no way can she withstand the mating practices of the Fae.

What’s the deal with sorry fathers?
Reviewed: 06-28-23
Look- one story about bad parenting is reasonable, but there are so many good fathers. Books like these make people think fathers are generally abusing and non nurturing. Give is a break and have a good father in there somewhere.

Story
It happens in an instant, filling Aija with dread: The Sun is suddenly cast from the sky, throwing the Earth into midday darkness. On the fourth day of endless night, Aija finds an unconscious man by the river. His skin is as hot as her lantern’s glass and just as golden. To Aija, a farmhand with the soul of an artist, this beautiful stranger is an inspiration - and a mystery. He calls himself Saiyon. He bleeds light. His friends are celestial. His enemies, godlings of the moon.

The narrator put me to sleep
Reviewed: 02-11-23
I liked the story alright. I didn’t think it was as engaging and unexpected as the Star Mother. I suppose I was expecting more interaction from the sun god. The narrator was ok, but her almost monotone voice put me to sleep on several occasions (when I didn’t want to) I couldn’t tell which character was which between the girls and even the sun god want much different. I got through it but would recommend to the narrator to practice different voices and even accents to bring the characters to life.

Story
Bayr of Saylok, bastard son of a powerful and jealous chieftain, is haunted by the curse once leveled by his dying mother. Bartered, abandoned, and rarely loved, she plagued the land with her words: From this day forward, there will be no daughters in Saylok. Raised among the Keepers at Temple Hill, Bayr is gifted with inhuman strength. But he’s also blessed with an all-too-human heart that beats with one purpose: to protect Alba, the first girl child born in nearly two decades and the salvation for a country at risk.

Brilliantly crafted and so riveting!
Reviewed: 12-10-22
I loved this story. It had the unexpected twists and turns that I crave, having read so many predictable tales such as this one.
There is tension between the main characters, fierce devotion, romance without explicit descriptions, and yes some teary moments. The world is well crafted and I could see the Norse people and village in my imagination as I listened.
Rob Shapiro is riveting and flawless in his reading. I loved listening to him and will seek out more of his performances.
Even though it ended without a cliffhanger, I do want more from these characters and this world. I have already purchased the next audiobook, The Blind Boy and hope so much that Amy Harmon visits this world again.
Amy is so talented and has won over a fan! I will be putting her books on my reading/listening checklist!

Ok, I am giving this story all the stars I can in hopes Stephanie Fisher continues this series. I want to know what happens after! Anything I say about the story will give it away and I don’t want to ruin it. There are so many twists and unexpected turns. Please please keep going!! Also I am going to look up more books that are narrated by Elizabeth Evans. And Audible, please start organizing your books like Kindle so I can find the next book in the series easily. Also I wish I could click on the narrator and find their books too!

I absolutely love this series- it hits all my emotional buttons and I love the characters. I have actually listened to these more than once and that doesn’t happen very often. The story has a unique theme that I just want more of. I love Zachary Webber anyway- his voice is so sexy and he does all the voices perfectly. Would love some more books featuring Malachi and Ana.

Like the characters but boring story
Reviewed: 03-31-21
I really like Avalon and the other characters in this series, but this story, told from Avalon’s view, was kind of slow moving and predictable. Without giving away what happens, I thought that anyone as powerful as the twins should have more showy magic or have a more dramatic battle. The love interest was also predictable. The other stories weren’t like that-it is as if this one was written in a hurry.

Typical teenage angst
Reviewed: 03-26-21
Some reviews criticize the main character as being"whiny", however I just saw her as a typical teenager in denial and in love. Sure, she makes selfish decisions but at least she feels responsible and tries to make up for it. It doesn't bother me that she is overdramatic. She doesn't give up and is willing to take the consequences and learn. Don't nitpick about every mistake. At least the story is somewhat unpredictable which is refreshing itself.

Performance kind of dull
Reviewed: 01-30-21
I think a guy should have narrated this story. Erin just sounds like a girl, and the same girl. The first two were pretty good, with the narrator at least trying to do different guy voices. And these are supposed to be the ultimate males. All of these sound the same in this book with the new narrator. Kind of detracts from a great story.
