I absolutely loved this book. Got through it in one weekend. Julia Whalen never disappoints. This story was so great. I was born in 1970 and sadly know very little about Vietnam. This was so insightful, and my heart broke for Frankie and her friends at being dismissed for their service to our country. Thank you for bringing this to light, and for sharing the immense hardships faced during and after the war for these amazing veterans.

I don’t always review books, but I appreciate reviews left by others. I had a hard time getting into this book, but I’m so glad I stuck with it. I learned so much about the topic at hand. I loved hearing the feelings and challenges from Lilly’s perspective. Interesting to really think about womanhood and what it all means. I also learned a lot about bees and honey!!! Definitely recommend!!

I think this book is a beautiful, albeit difficult story, and important for anyone trying to understand mental illness and BPD. I loved Rachel’s candor, and the narrator did an amazing job of portraying both doctor and patient. Highly recommend!

I really loved this book. I tore through it in a few days! I love this author, and always love Julia Whelan as a narrator (I actually listened to two of hers back to back!). The imagery and scenery was vivid, and the author brought Alaska to life for me. The story line of challenges of love in a difficult marriage, and the bond of mother and daughter was heart wrenching and beautiful. I loved it!!

Where does The Storyteller rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I have listened to A LOT of books, and this is one of my very favorites

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I loved the plot. This is three stories woven into one. It is captivating, and each character is fascinating in their own psychology in the tale. It is a story of many people suffering emotionally in different ways based on events in their past. Each person has their own coping mechanism, but learns to overcome by what they learn from one another. There is love, romance, hardship, pain, and hope.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Although this is a story that most of us have heard before in various formats, having a voice to the survivor telling the story made it very real. It was also fascinating to be inside of the mind of the perpetrator(s) to this crime against humanity. It is so difficult to understand how someone could justify their actions in this type of circumstance. Picoult opens a window to help the listener understand that dyanmic through the voice of the narrator. It is difficult to hate the person altogether after you feel like you know and understand him better. The internal conflict felt by he main character concerning her relationship with the elderly man is completely understandable.

Would you listen to The Witness again? Why?

I generally do not listen to books (or read them) twice, but I can see how you could. This was such a lovely story, and I did not anticipate it ending as it did. I really loved it, and could not wait for every opportunity to listen.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes

Would you listen to The Body Fat Solution again? Why?

Yes- I like the overall theme of the book, but the way the narrator pronounces some obvious words kind of makes me want to cringe. I don't know why!
