Story
When Abby, an American archaeologist, arrives in St. Denis on the heels of her divorce, she hopes to make a new life for herself as a specialist guide for visiting tourists. So when a local British couple discover a grave from World War II on their property, Abby is able to put her training to good use. As it turns out, in the grave are the remains of two German women and an Italian submarine office who had a big secret to hide: the women are suspected of having had links to the German garrison in Bordeaux during the war.

Poor Plot Development
Reviewed: 04-10-25
This was formulaic, predictable, and bogged down in minutiae. Perhaps I’m sick of the misogynistic tone and the rightist leanings that are not so subtle. And on top of that, the characters were poorly developed and the ending was not an ending but rather a cessation of writing.

Horrible narration, just horrible.
Reviewed: 08-25-24
This was a pleasant enough story, though I was aware of many inconsistencies. What was just about unbearable was the use of AI for narration. I almost stopped listening to it because of this. The expression was robotic and often wrong. The Italian language, one of the most beautiful in the world, was butchered. Had I paid for the book, I would have returned it. Audible should be ashamed.

Way too much of a focus on redemption and Christ for my taste. In bad taste given the Holocaust subject matter. This ruined the story and made me decide not to listen to another by this writer.

The descriptions of the environment were fine. The characters were not particularly well-developed. I found much of the work related descriptions tedious and full of too much detail.
