Disappointing
Reviewed: 04-17-23
Narrator is excellent but the 3 book omnibus is disappointing. Shallow characters, lots of snark and sexual innuendo coming from the main character who has had her young daughter kidnapped but somehow she still finds plenty of time to concentrate on other things. Writing is very shallow, felt like this was a poorly written sci-fi romance. No conclusion to story but I'm not wasting any credits to continue with the series.

Story
Alexander and his growing legion have managed to escape Nova Roma and, more importantly, learned that the rest of the world may not be as ravaged by monsters as they had all thought. Join them as they set sail for ancient Venice, the Queen of the Adriatic, to try to learn more about the wider world outside Nova Roma. Along the way, they'll encounter a growing plague of deadly pirates, deceitful old merchant families out to quash any new competitors in the region, mysterious new allies, and much more.

Great second book in the series!!!

Loved it! Alexander continues to mature and grow as the main character. Also developing several friendships, relationships with other interesting characters. A great read!!!! Eagerly downloading and starting book 3 right now! Also if you haven't checked out the book Jake's Magical Market by the same author, it's wonderful as well. I like it a little bit more even and can hardly wait for more books in that series too!!! Mr Mathews is just a awesome author, very creative and entertaining with likeable interesting characters!

Story
After losing the only person he ever cared about, Alexander, a rogue artificial intelligence, opens a portal to an alternate dimension to escape his grief. Scanning trillions of different dimensions, Alexander finally finds a world that is reminiscent of the only time he was ever happy, back when he could play virtual reality games with his only friend. Only this new world isn't full of idyllic adventures and fantasy roleplaying. Instead, Alexander finds himself trapped in the middle of a city where monsters have ravaged the world and the only people alive struggle to survive.

Great LitRPG series!!
Reviewed: 02-28-23
This series and the author's other book Jake's Magical Market are the best LitRPG novels I've read!! This does focus more on the main character especially at first but other characters are definitely introduced over the course of the book. Please give this author a chance and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised!!! I just finished book 2 of this series and am about to start book 3. Enjoying every minute! At first the narrator was just ok but he has definitely grown on me and I think he's perfect for the main character.

Big disappointment!

It's almost unbelievable how a series can start of great and end so badly.
The first two books were awesome but this third book was a disaster. Can't believe how the author utterly wrote off and ruined/replaced the main hero and replaced him with a whining traitor instead. R.C. Bray did an amazing job narrating as usual. Such a shame the book devolves into garbage!

Disappointing...

I've always enjoyed the authors Shannara series but this book is very disappointing. It's very juvenile and predictable, basically written for young teens. The main character questions his every thought and action throughout the whole book. It's the worst Terry Brooks book I've ever read.
