Story
In the summer of 1804, Vice President Aaron Burr was wanted for the murder of Alexander Hamilton. The fatal duel made him a political pariah and the target of widespread public outcry. But as Burr’s Vice Presidency came to an end, he refused to slink into the shadows. Vowing to rise again, he decided to seek his fortunes in the West. Soon, he would journey to the newly acquired Louisiana Territory, recruiting allies and seeking to fulfill his dreams of rebellion and conquest.

Loving the story telling, annoyed with one thing
Reviewed: 03-11-23
While most of the stories are incredibly historically accurate, I can’t seem to get past the fact that this segment keeps bringing the Republican Party into the narrative before it even existed. It started in 1854. This segment is in the early 1800’s. It’d be the Wig party and the Federalist Party as the biggest political parties at the time. Other than that, great story telling.

Story
The culture of “safety” and its intolerance of opposing viewpoints has left many young people anxious and unprepared for adult life. Lukianoff and Haidt offer a comprehensive set of reforms that will strengthen young people and institutions, allowing us all to reap the benefits of diversity, including viewpoint diversity. This is a book for anyone who is confused by what’s happening on college campuses today, or has children, or is concerned about the growing inability of Americans to live and work and cooperate across party lines.

Story
Dish up the red meat, eggs, and whole milk! In this well-researched and captivating narrative, veteran food writer Nina Teicholz proves how everything we've been told about fat is wrong. For decades, Americans have cut back on red meat and dairy products full of "bad" saturated fats. We obediently complied with nutritional guidelines to eat "heart healthy" fats found in olive oil, fish, and nuts, and followed a Mediterranean diet heavy on fruits, vegetables, and grains. Yet the nation's health has declined. What is going on?

Story
Over the past several decades, globalization has homogenized what we eat, and done so ruthlessly. The numbers are stark: Of the roughly 6,000 different plants once consumed by human beings, only nine remain major staples today. Just three of these - rice, wheat, and corn - now provide 50 percent of all our calories. Dig deeper and the trends are more worrisome still.

Really makes you think 🤔

This book will have you reevaluating how you enjoy a simple meal. What was once something tasty can now connect you to history in an almost religious way. It had me thinking about my own heritages and thinking about trying childhood meals again, but from scratch. It also had me rethinking about my garden this year. Definitely will be going some different things if I can get my hands on them.

Story
Why did humans abandon hunting and gathering for sedentary communities dependent on livestock and cereal grains and governed by precursors of today's states? Most people believe that plant and animal domestication allowed humans, finally, to settle down and form agricultural villages, towns, and states, which made possible civilization, law, public order, and a presumably secure way of living. But archaeological and historical evidence challenges this narrative.

Hayley Carpenter has always dreamed of being a famous screenwriter, but dreams don’t pay bills and LA living isn’t cheap. So when a temp position at a celebrity gossip magazine becomes available, she goes after it. Emerson Sterling has been acting since she was little, but a rough patch as a teenager has given her a bad rap in Hollywood. Finally a realistic-ish love story about the beginning of the end of the world as we know it. As a fellow lgbt Prepper this book really hit home for me. The balance between the budding romances and the next to non-stop action kept me on the edge of my seat to the point that I was shocked and instantly craving more when it ended. Seriously, I wish that it had a few more chapters and hope that the author releases a sequel soon.
