I want to start off this review by saying that I love Marley Valentine. I love the concept of this book and I like the idea of following each of the siblings in subsequent sequels.( I think I read somewhere that was the plan?)
But I just felt that more could have been done with Frankie's character.
I purchased this audiobook because I love "Ache" and the character of Frankie really stood out to me even though he was in it so briefly. I was excited to read something that focused on his story.

Semi spoiler!!!!! 🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️

Last chance to avoid any semi spoiler discussion!!!!

Okay so a big deal is made about the fact that Frankie leaves. But we as the audience never a really given his perspective. We are only given the perspective of how hard it was on everyone else that he left. We are constantly made to feel that he betrayed his family and everyone around him by leaving. And the discussion and perspective just felt very one-sided. I would have liked it better if more time had been given to telling Frankie's story and more detail explaining why he left in the first place. For example if there was a major incident that forced his hand, or a major fight that made him stay away... It just felt very odd knowing Frankie's personality that he would drop his boyfriend off at rehab and then completely ditch...

My major complaint is that I purchased this book because I wanted to learn more about the character Frankie. But at the end I feel like I really understand Arlo and his character and his motivations, but not Frankie. I feel like this book was mostly about Arlo and his addiction and not Frankie. I would have liked to understand Frankies childhood and traumas better like explaining more in depth what his childhood was like, with specific example.

In any case I liked the book (I read it in one sitting) and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes MM romance books.

Zachary Johnson and Liam DiCosimo did a wonderful job with their performance. I'll listen to anything with Zachary Johnson!

This is my second book from CE Ricci and all I can say is wow! This book has a completely different feel from their other book available on audible currently "Head Above Water" (which is a masterpiece go read it!)

I knew I had to give this book a read but was concerned that it might not be as fulfilling as "Head Above Water" because the tone is very different.

I am happy to say that this author is able to compose beautiful exciting stories from different perspectives and in different degrees of intensities. This story is very fun and funny. While there are some difficult topics that are covered, they are dealt with tactfully and efficiently. It never feels drawn out or laboured.

I only wish there were more books by C.E. Ricci available on Audible. But trust that I will be purchasing them as soon as they are available. My thanks to the author!

Long story short:
Wow! Just wow! Definitely one of my favorites from K.A. Merikan.

Long story long:
***SPOILERS RUN AWAY***

Last chance... Spoilers.

Merikan does it again with their compelling characters, gritty backdrop, and diverse character perspectives. Forcing the reader to see the world in shades of gray.

Perhaps the best part of this book is the character Jed. Jed is a fascinating combination of violence and deep sensitivity. A duality forged through years of trying to alter oneself.
I loved the way Jed's perspective was presented from a lgbtq+ perspective.

As a member of the lgbtq+ community, it was nice to see a character who was gay, but who had been living as a straight person and had been having sex with people of the opposite gender.

In books and media, gay people are often portrayed as being physically unable to have sex with the opposite gender (like it's some kind of physical impossibility or something?). The reality is not every person in the lgbtq+ community knows their sexual orientation from birth, or is in a position to do something about it.
In the book when Jed comes out to someone they say:"What? But I've seen you having sex with a woman before?!"
It was nice to see this perspective in a book. Thank you for writing it!

I only wish it was longer, or that it had a sequel with these two characters. I feel that there was more to explore with their life and the story wrapped up just a bit too quickly. But overall a wonderful read.

This is the ninth book I've read from K.A. Merikan and I can say with certainty this is very different from the rest. This is almost, dare I say a rom-com. It was a really sweet and interesting ride, with a morbid twist.

This is a well-written historically accurate slow-burn romance with a satisfying ending. The chemistry is there and the time is invested to flesh out these two very real characters.
