Publisher's summary

On September 11th, 2001, Kris Caldera was a junior member of the CIA's Alec Station, the unit dedicated to finding and stopping Osama Bin Laden. They failed.

Ten days later, he was on the ground in Afghanistan with a Special Forces team. On the battlefield, he meets Special Forces Sergeant David Haddad. David - Arab American, Muslim, and gay - becomes the man Kris loves, the man he lives for, and the man he kills for, through the long years of the raging wars.

When a botched mission rips David from Kris' life, Kris' world falls into ruin and ash.

After being captured, tortured to the edge of his life, and left for dead by his comrades, David doesn't know how much of himself is left. He vanished in the tribal belt of Pakistan, and the man who walks out almost a decade later is someone new: Al Dakhil Al-Khorasani.

Intelligence from multiple sources overseas points to something new. Something deadly, and moving to strike the United States. Intercepts say an army from Khorasan, the land of the dead where the Apocalypse of Islam will rise, is coming. And, at the head of this army, a shadowy figure the US hasn't seen before: Al Dakhil Al-Khorasani.

David is coming home.

Tal Bauer knows to write. my heart aches

we all lived those times of terror from islam attacking USA, but this book put things in order. made sence. The 2 main characters are aching their people pain - the americans and the islamic pain, and through their eyes we beggin to understand the mess. John Solo does a briliant work in bringing the story to life. my opinion on the book? let me cry my eyes first...

An emotional roller coaster

This book is phenomenal. It takes place over the course of 15-20 years, so the love story is well developed and feels natural. Their love sustains them through very terrible events and circumstances and it’s beautifully written. I’m a big fan of the context as well- 9/11 changed everything and it really pulls you back into the mindset of the time and the very deep fear and hatred that shaped these international interactions. Just wow. My only warning is that it rips out your heart before putting it back, so beware. If you’re not looking for something intense, then come back to this book when you are.

Excellent

Excellent narration! So much heart, soul, and passion. Easily distinguishable characters, and the love/rage/fear/hopes/calm/desire were all articulated well throughout this amazing story.

Holy Sh💩t..! Great Story..!

I am a straight, white non-religious, but a seeker of God, red-blooded, American man!
I was floored by how amazing the story, and the characters were. Just wow!
I struggled at 1st never having experienced a story like this. But the beautiful way this author wrote this story & the narrator tells the story! Such emotion! Raw & real! The subject has been an obsession of mine since the day of the tragic terrorist attacks on 9-11. I thought I had read just about every fiction and non-fiction telling of the events of that day end of the days in years after I was 21 years old my birthday, being exactly a month before and August these events shaped and molded. The man I would be where I would go with that would do have I seen the world religions and faith, but never did I imagine that a story like this existed out there about this subject man your man truly blown away excellent work this book should have won awards and maybe you did. I’ll have to look into that what entertaining 25 hours I think I’m going to buy the book in hardback to have in my library shelf to read again bravo I will recommend this to friends I feel it makes you examine some of our prejudice that are instilled in else’s children that we ourselves don’t understand so again bravo! may God hold everyone who reads this book in his hands and me everyone who reads this book find their God the one that exists in their heart!

wow

Tal Bauer continues to blow my mind. This is not a book it is a journey. At the center is a beautiful enduring love story. It is so much more it's about understanding cultures and people. Again the amount of research that goes into each of TB books is obvious and just intensified this journey. Its based in several real events
I HAVE SOME ISSUES WITH HE NARRATION VOICE IS GOOD BUT IN THE DRAMATIC MOMENTS ITS JUST NOT WHAT I WANTED. OTHER THAN THAT HE HAS A PLEASANT VOICE

So, so, so, so good! A true saga.

This is at times a hard read, as it portrays war, torture, and terrorism, but if you can get through that, it’s so worth it. It even helped me process some of the direct and vicarious trauma I experienced due to 9/11 and all that came after, as well as trauma I may never fully get over about being gay in a homophobic world. The love story is one for the ages, and the mystery/action is thrilling.

a must read

I'm extremely serious about this. This should be a movie with the characters as is. nothing changing. I always believed in my heart. God makes no mistakes and if anybody has the right to judge it's God and only God. No man.

I could not put this book down for 25 hours plus minutes. this is one of my favorites of all time

I have to recognize Mr. Bauer for his passion research devoted attention to this book

I'm not a big favorite by the narrator but Mr. Solo didn't extremely extremely good job

I give this book five stars on everything overall, story, and performance.
