Story
Bono met his wife in high school, Park says. So did Jerry Lee Lewis, Eleanor answers. I’m not kidding, he says. You should be, she says, we’re 16. What about Romeo and Juliet? Shallow, confused, then dead. I love you, Park says. Wherefore art thou, Eleanor answers. I’m not kidding, he says. You should be. Set over the course of one school year in 1986, this is the story of two star-crossed misfits - smart enough to know that first love almost never lasts, but brave and desperate enough to try. When Eleanor meets Park, you’ll remember your own first love.

Wow. A friend recommended this to me and I was surprised that she’d recommend a YA novel. “It’s good,” she assured me. And she was right! I was engrossed with the story of Eleanor & Park from the get-go. Such a tender, lovely story.

Story
Greece in the age of heroes. Patroclus, an awkward young prince, has been exiled to the kingdom of Phthia to be raised in the shadow of King Peleus and his golden son, Achilles. “The best of all the Greeks”—strong, beautiful, and the child of a goddess—Achilles is everything the shamed Patroclus is not. Yet despite their differences, the boys become steadfast companions. Their bond deepens as they grow into young men and become skilled in the arts of war and medicine—much to the displeasure and the fury of Achilles’ mother, Thetis, a cruel sea goddess with a hatred of mortals.

Beautiful book with exceptional narration
Reviewed: 03-26-19
I am truly amazed by the beauty of this book. The language used by Madeline Miller is the most sumptuous, beautiful, clear and engaging writing I have ever read or listen to. Her mastery of the English language is unparalleled. The narrator of this novel added to the beauty and devotion of the authors words. I will be looking for other work he narrates. And I wish that there were many more books to read by this exceptional author. Do yourself a favor and read this book right away! I enjoyed the narration so much and plan to now are you hardcopies of the books as well. I initially purchased a hard copy of this book for my teenage son as he is and avid reader of Greek and Roman mythology. He finished the book and told me he thought I would enjoy it as well – and I am so pleased to have these books on our bookshelf at home.

Story
George Eliot's most ambitious novel is a masterly evocation of diverse lives and changing fortunes in a provincial community. Peopling its landscape are Dorothea Brooke, a young idealist whose search for intellectual fulfillment leads her into a disastrous marriage to the pedantic scholar Casaubon; and the charming but tactless Dr Lydgate, whose marriage to the spendthrift beauty Rosamund and pioneering medical methods threaten to undermine his career.

I love the little twists and surprises in this book. Honestly I prefer the Audible version of her books as the narrator is simply marvelous! Her expression and voice completes the story for me. She is fabulous and I could (and do) listen to her for days!

Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon - the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him "the bitter neighbor from hell". But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness.
