I enjoyed listening to the characters develop and the twists and turns in the different storylines of of the four Swans. I keep hoping that Ross and Demelza will learn to communicate better with each other but this is the late 1700s...

Enjoying this series and characters.

Once again the narrator blew me away with his accents and his emotion. Truly able to feel like I'm in the story when listening to this series. A gorgeous book with sadness, happiness, triumph and turmoil. Love, hate, feuds, and so much more. And of course, beautiful Cornwall as the backdrop of a fantastic story with colorful, relatable characters.

Of all the Poldark books, this book is probably the one, that humanize the characters the most.
Demelza experience what Ross struggled whit in the first books. And how easily she can be torn by her emotions and what it can lead too.
And what is most surprising. You feel empathy for her and Ross.
I love the way Winston Graham have described each characters almost to the last detail. And it makes you want to read more.
This series is definitely one you have to read or hear. It may seem long to some, but something happens in the books all the time, so when a book ends, you just have to start with the next.

Best reading ever

While many novels in series tend to wane, The Four Swans presents as exhuberantly as a debut. Centered around four women in protagonist Ross Poldark’s life, his wife Demelza, friend Caroline Ennis, former love Elizabeth Warleggan, and the latter’s cousin, Rowenna Osborne, the story is rich in historical detail of everyday life, politics, history, war, class issues, social mores, and religion. Oliver J. Hembrough’s great skill in bringing the text and characters alive enhances the overall experience. Start at the beginning of the series, Ross Poldark, and enter this fascinating, but never stuffy, period of British and Cornwall history.
