Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Great book, fantastic performance.

Andy Weir does not disappoint. The combination of science, humor and drama is just as good as it was in the Martian. But the absolute stand out in the story was Ray Porter. The single best audiobook performance I have ever listened to. I am actually going to look for other books he is narrated just because he was that great.

Story
As a child, Chris Hooper dreamed of monsters. But in deep space, he found only darkness and isolation. Then, on planet LV178, he and his fellow miners discovered a storm-scoured, sand-blasted hell - and trimonite, the hardest material known to man. When a shuttle crashes into the mining ship Marion, the miners learn that there was more than trimonite deep in the caverns. There was evil, hibernating and waiting for suitable prey.

Fun but too short.

Good book, but feel that these burn credits being this short. Should be 2 stories per credit if they are this short.

Author's 1st book is incredible!

Best word I can come up with is stunning! One of those rare books where I feel right there in the shoes of the characters, invested in them, caring about them. The complete attention to detail of the whole world is great. The confidence to take little trips into side stories that drive the understanding of the character, they don't necessarily drive the main plot forward but add a richness to the character that makes you even more invested.
Personally I think it is great fun to be so thoroughly immersed in the story and I really still don't know where the main story line is heading. We have yet to be overwhelmed with the monsters, enemies, and protagonists to be wondering who the foils are going to be.
My main disappointment is that this book was just released so I will be waiting forever to continue the story.

I typically only listen to books when I am driving to and from work. I know the book has really captivated me when I sit in the parking lot continuing to listen because I am in a great part.
Loved the book - wish there was a follow on.

I really wanted to like this series, but the constant stream of snarky sarcastic dialog just got to tiring to want to continue. Was it totally impossible for the characters to have a normal conversation without trading barbs. I bought the whole series and am now very sorry I did.

Story
It has been 20 years since the end of the war. The dictatorial Augurs, once thought of almost as gods, were overthrown and wiped out during the conflict, their much-feared powers mysteriously failing them. Those who had ruled under them, men and women with a lesser ability known as the Gift, avoided the Augurs' fate only by submitting themselves to the rebellion's Four Tenets.

It is hard to really break new ground in this genre. I was a bit worried at the start that this was going to be something of a LOR clone when the story was centered around a group of travelers with a central unwilling young character, but it went on a different track quite well. Good characters, and some interesting twists on the powers available to the characters.
Overall there is not a whole lot new and exciting here, but it still remains enjoyable, the characters are likeable and I look forward to each listen on my commute.
Only personal downside on these books is the year(s) long wait between each new book. I almost avoid them and choose fully fleshed series for that reason. Now I wait and hope I remember everything when the next book finally comes out.

The Wheel of Time turns and Ages come and go, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth returns again. In the Third Age, an Age of Prophecy, the World and Time themselves hang in the balance. What was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the Shadow.

Excellent
Reviewed: 04-10-13
Would you consider the audio edition of A Memory of Light to be better than the print version?
I have listed to several books now from the Voice Actors and they are fantastic. They actually have me enjoying the audible version more due to the color and emotion they project into their performances.
What did you like best about this story?
Excellent capstone to the series. Middle of the series was uneven and pandering. Probably could have gotten rid of 5 books. Took so long that I hardly remember the earlier books.
Which character – as performed by Michael Kramer and Kate Reading – was your favorite?
Elayne seemed to be the richest characterization and depth. Wish they had spent more on Lan's character.
