Story
I am the type of woman who always plays it safe. In my professional life as a public relations "fixer", and in my personal life, especially when it comes to the opposite sex. Really, who needs the wild highs and the I-want-to-die-because-he-left-me lows of a relationship? At least, that's what I thought...until I met HIM. Damian No-Last-Name-Given is sexy as sin, and I'd developed some kind of weird, instant attraction to him the moment he settled his chiseled body next to mine on a flight from London to Los Angeles.

I don't understand all the positive reviews. This book is awful. Who, in real life, refers to a woman as "a female"? just ugh. Won't be listening to/reading anything else from this author. DNF.

Story
Being the oldest Ravage brother means I've always been the fixer, handling everyone else's mess. But the one problem I can't solve? Keeping my hands off Zoe, my best friend's daughter. Hidden away in my remote cabin, writing is my escape until duty thrusts her into my life. Over the years, Zoe evolves into a tempting taboo—the one person I crave but can never claim, despite what she tells me about her inclinations. I vowed protection at any cost—even if it's from myself.

I liked the story, but somewhere during the second half it felt like the author rushed to get it done. The writing just got sloppy. "Her eyes sparkled with mischievousness". That's a lot of letters just to say 'mischief'. Additional incidents of sloppiness took me out of the story repeatedly. Bad writing, poor editing. Disappointing.
The male narrators this author chooses for her books are always bad, and this one's no exception. He's fine until the spicy parts, and then he just sounds like a creep. Speaking through clenched teeth so all the resonance goes through his nose, hard (emphasized) final consonants. Not sexy at all. indeed, it's a turn off. The female narrator is fine.

Story
Arden, Lorcan, and Carrick are the men everyone fears... They are known as the Deana-dhe. Dealing in debts, they steal information and manipulate. To them, I am Cyn. I'm their original sin. The mute girl they never wanted to be drawn to. The girl who put a spell on them, who became their cailleach. You see, I'm a modern-day witch skilled in the art of alchemy. A long time ago, I made a deal with the Deana-dhe, and they're back to cash in on my debt. If I'm the apple they never wanted to take a bite out of, then they're the snakes willing to use me for their own gain.

Love learning Cyn's story
Reviewed: 07-19-24
I loved Cyn in the Their Obsession duet and looked forward to learning her story. This book doesn't disappoint. She's a fascinating character. The Deana-dhe are interesting, such different personalities. (Note: it would be nice if narrators researched the correct pronunciation of unfamiliar words, especially when it's the name of the main character(s). "dhe" is correctly pronounced yay, so the trio is the Dee-anna-yay. I looked it up when I read the book so I'd "hear" it correctly while I read. It was jarring to hear it mispronounced repeatedly. Also, the Irish accents are awful and inconsistent.) The Skull Brotherhood section was too unbelievable and unpleasant. It felt like it didn't fit the rest of the story. But overall, it's a good story we'll told.

The story is light and fun. The narration is awful. The story takes place in Ohio, but the narrator uses a New York accent for one of the native-to-Ohio characters. She sounds like she's got a cold throughout. Her voice for the MMC makes him sound like an over-eager little kid. I found the narration unpleasant and distracting.

Reviewed: 01-09-24
I enjoy all of Ms. Cruisie's books, and this was no exception. it's so nice to have a romance that's about a mature woman.
The narrator's voice is reminiscent of Nina Totenberg, who reports on the U.S. Supreme Court for NPR. Pleasant enough in short reports, but painful for the length of a book.

My favorite DuMaurier story
Reviewed: 12-16-23
I've loved this book since I first read it as a teen. As an older adult, now, I find so much more nuance than I did when I was younger. How dissatisfaction with one's life and a need to break free of its restrictions can lead one to doing something wild and crazy just to *feel* something again, and how it can be tempting to abandon a solid but stodgy relationship in favor of something passionate and exciting. Ultimately, Dona makes the right choice, but I completely understand her struggle.
This would make a blockbuster movie...

Story
Rare-book dealer Ashlyn Greer’s affinity for books extends beyond the intoxicating scent of old paper, ink, and leather. She can feel the echoes of the books’ previous owners—an emotional fingerprint only she can read. When Ashlyn discovers a pair of beautifully bound volumes that appear to have never been published, her gift quickly becomes an obsession. Not only is each inscribed with a startling incrimination, but the authors, Hemi and Belle, tell conflicting sides of a tragic romance.

Nice change of pace
Reviewed: 12-16-23
This book is different from my usual choices, and it was a nice change of pace for me. I enjoyed both timelines. The book dragged a little toward the end, but over all it was a good tempo. I really wish narrators in general, and this female narrator specifically, would stop narrating with a dry-mouth lozenge in their mouths. We can hear when you do this, and it's terribly distracting.

My husband left me. After five years together, he realized he was gay. Once the anger had faded away, there was nothing but love behind. This man is still my best friend, and I want him in my life. So, I move across the hall so we can be as close as we always have been. Then his brother moves in for a couple of weeks, a man I've never met. He has relocated to Seattle to work as an ER doctor at the local hospital. And he's nothing like his brother.

Boring
Reviewed: 12-14-23
The story is flat and boring. The premise is interesting and could have been really good, but not in the hands of this author. The characters are boring; there's no passion in any of the relationships, the FMC is a doormat, everyone's self-involved. It's a bad soap opera that just drones on and on.

I tried to ruin the Lords before they could drag me into the depths of hell with them–and failed. Now, I’m reaping the consequences–vengeance by those same four, ruthless men who would like nothing more than to rid me from their order. Betrayal is funny that way–one proverbial knife in the back turns their cold, dead hearts even colder.
