I don't understand all the positive reviews. This book is awful. Who, in real life, refers to a woman as "a female"? just ugh. Won't be listening to/reading anything else from this author. DNF.

I liked the story, but somewhere during the second half it felt like the author rushed to get it done. The writing just got sloppy. "Her eyes sparkled with mischievousness". That's a lot of letters just to say 'mischief'. Additional incidents of sloppiness took me out of the story repeatedly. Bad writing, poor editing. Disappointing.

The male narrators this author chooses for her books are always bad, and this one's no exception. He's fine until the spicy parts, and then he just sounds like a creep. Speaking through clenched teeth so all the resonance goes through his nose, hard (emphasized) final consonants. Not sexy at all. indeed, it's a turn off. The female narrator is fine.

Love learning Cyn's story

I loved Cyn in the Their Obsession duet and looked forward to learning her story. This book doesn't disappoint. She's a fascinating character. The Deana-dhe are interesting, such different personalities. (Note: it would be nice if narrators researched the correct pronunciation of unfamiliar words, especially when it's the name of the main character(s). "dhe" is correctly pronounced yay, so the trio is the Dee-anna-yay. I looked it up when I read the book so I'd "hear" it correctly while I read. It was jarring to hear it mispronounced repeatedly. Also, the Irish accents are awful and inconsistent.) The Skull Brotherhood section was too unbelievable and unpleasant. It felt like it didn't fit the rest of the story. But overall, it's a good story we'll told.

was full of mispronounciations that took a while to figure out. examples; vehemently pronounced VEH-mently (correct is VEE-heh-ment-ly) and placate pronounced PLAH-sate (correct is PLAY-kate). If you're not 100% certain of pronunciation, look it up in a dictionary!

The story is light and fun. The narration is awful. The story takes place in Ohio, but the narrator uses a New York accent for one of the native-to-Ohio characters. She sounds like she's got a cold throughout. Her voice for the MMC makes him sound like an over-eager little kid. I found the narration unpleasant and distracting.

I enjoy all of Ms. Cruisie's books, and this was no exception. it's so nice to have a romance that's about a mature woman.

The narrator's voice is reminiscent of Nina Totenberg, who reports on the U.S. Supreme Court for NPR. Pleasant enough in short reports, but painful for the length of a book.

I've loved this book since I first read it as a teen. As an older adult, now, I find so much more nuance than I did when I was younger. How dissatisfaction with one's life and a need to break free of its restrictions can lead one to doing something wild and crazy just to *feel* something again, and how it can be tempting to abandon a solid but stodgy relationship in favor of something passionate and exciting. Ultimately, Dona makes the right choice, but I completely understand her struggle.

This would make a blockbuster movie...

This book is different from my usual choices, and it was a nice change of pace for me. I enjoyed both timelines. The book dragged a little toward the end, but over all it was a good tempo. I really wish narrators in general, and this female narrator specifically, would stop narrating with a dry-mouth lozenge in their mouths. We can hear when you do this, and it's terribly distracting.

The story is flat and boring. The premise is interesting and could have been really good, but not in the hands of this author. The characters are boring; there's no passion in any of the relationships, the FMC is a doormat, everyone's self-involved. It's a bad soap opera that just drones on and on.

This is the conclusion to the Lords of Darkness, and does a good job of resolving conflicts and cementing the relationship between the FMC and her men. There's a satisfying amount of spice. And a HEA.
