Story
San Francisco, 1906. In a city bustling with newly minted millionaires and scheming upstarts, two very different women hope to change their fortunes: Gemma, a golden-haired, silver-voiced soprano whose career desperately needs rekindling, and Suling, a petite and resolute Chinatown embroideress who is determined to escape an arranged marriage. Their paths cross when they are drawn into the orbit of Henry Thornton, a charming railroad magnate whose extraordinary collection of Chinese antiques includes the fabled Phoenix Crown, a legendary relic of Beijing’s fallen Summer Palace.

Kate Quinn is an auto-buy author for me and I loved that she worked with Janie Chang to bring this book together. A lot of research went into this book and I loved how easy it was to picture everything they described. This story was from a time I haven’t explored much so it was fun to learn more as I read.

UGHHHH Kristin Hannah... This woman is one of the few authors who can make me cry real tears and this book is no different. I loved that I learned a bit of history while reading this book. It was great to get a glimpse into the lives of nurses who served in Vietnam. I listened to this book and Julia Whelan did an amazing job with the narration.

Story
Justin has a curse, and thanks to a Reddit thread, it's now all over the internet. Every woman he dates goes on to find their soul mate the second they break up. When a woman slides into his DMs with the same problem, they come up with a plan: They'll date each other and break up. Their curses will cancel each other’s out, and they’ll both go on to find the love of their lives. It’s a bonkers idea… and it just might work.

Just like with most Abby Jimenez books you get more than just a love story. I really appreciate the real situations and family drama/trauma that are depicted. I loved the baby raccoons, that part of the story had me laughing out loud. When I realized the twist I gasped. The way that everything wrapped up in the end was perfect.

Eight years ago I fell into a secret summer fling with my best friend’s little sister before our lives went in different directions. Now, I’m the grumpy to Juliet’s sunshine on a popular dating podcast we host, and when a wealthy fan gives us a charming coastal cottage as the biggest thank you ever, we head to the town where I grew up to give it a makeover. And find the house has only one bed. Located under a mirrored ceiling.

I saw that this audiobook was added to the Audible Plus catalog and I instantly downloaded it. I knew what I was getting into with Lauren Blakely and that is a fun book with quirky side characters. I loved that you see other couples from her other books make a cameo in her books. It may not be a literary masterpiece but it is fun. I also LOVE a dual narration.

Story
Daphne always loved the way her fiancé Peter told their story. How they met (on a blustery day), fell in love (over an errant hat), and moved back to his lakeside hometown to begin their life together. He really was good at telling it…right up until the moment he realized he was actually in love with his childhood best friend Petra. Which is how Daphne begins her new story.

Daphne's fiance Peter broke off their engagement after his best friend Petra professed her love for him. Daphne has to start her life over again in Peter’s hometown. She moves in with Mile’s (Petra’s ex). Daphne and Miles help each other through the breakups and start fake dating when they receive an invitation to Peter and Pertra’s wedding.
I love an Emily Henry book and this one did not disappoint. There was such cute banter and adorable side characters. I love that both characters bring out the best in the other. I listened to the audiobook and Julia Whelan does an absolutely amazing job once again. I love that this is more than just a sweet romance story. Miles and Daphne have a rich backstory and lives.

Story
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Touching Story

This was an absolutely beautifully written book. It made me happy just turning it on to listen. I think the narrator did an amazing job. All the characters felt real and had several dimensions. Obviously, Marcellus was my favorite and Tova was a close second. It was a heartwarming story that was sweet and funny.
I really thought about if it should be a 4 or 5-star rating. I know that ratings are subjective and I would likely rate it differently if I had read it at a different time. I went with a 4 star but really it was like a 4.45 rating. It was a bit predictable but I loved the tie-in with Avery. However, I was annoyed by Cameron a most of the book. He did turn it around and he wasn't always annoying. I know that was just his character... see I'm close to changing it to 5 stars.

There wasn't much to this. I don't know if I liked or connected to either character. I would start to but then they annoyed me. Cat was the worst. I would never leave my baby in the car of a guy who has no idea what he is doing as he drove up to Boston.
I did like that it was set in Tybee which is one of my favorite places.
