About this listen

In this sharp and shocking mystery by the New York Times best-selling author of Reese Witherspoon/Hello Sunshine pick The Jetsetters and The Lifeguards, a woman visiting her grandmother–a retired, once-legendary PI–becomes entangled in a mystifying local disappearance case on the beautiful, remote islands outside Savannah, Georgia.

Vivian, a former reporter and a newlywed, doesn’t know what to do with herself after an incident with her husband forces her to question their partnership and her future. Yearning for the ocean air and a sense of home, she retreats to Tybee Island to clear her head and visit her Nana, a retired PI who now struggles with dementia.

The phone rings: Catherine Grant, a housewife living in a private development nearby, woke up to find her husband and their baby girl missing, and she is desperate for help. Guided by all the wisdom her grandmother has instilled in her over the years, Vivian falls headfirst into this complicated case that will prove one of Nana’s favorite principles: In order to understand the present, you must examine the past.

Great story and narration…the narrator who was Ellen was perfect for the character. Will be fun to see if this author writes any full length books.

Excellent

Loved it. The story, narration, all grabbed me from beginning to end. Thanks for the ride.

Good Mystery

This was a great story right up to the final paragraph. I listened to it all in one day I was so caught up in it, and then the ending was so disappointing! It left so many things undone.

Good until the end 😕

This story sounded so good from the description, then I listened to it. Weak and crazy female leads with no real plot to the story other than the cover up of a murder. Vivian figures out Cat was lying to her but doesn't sound like she plans to do anything about it. Narrators were far better than the storyline. Just goes to show what some people will do out of sheer greed.

Glad it was free

The lead characters lacked depth and their so -called backstories were predictable. Any cop worth their salary would have made the connections way earlier. And the fact that Cat's mother-in-law committed suicide would have brought more attention to her as a suspect.

Struggling to finish

Overall the story was interesting and well told but I was appalled that the author slipped in a very racist view that was unnecessary and totally disconnected from the story line. Why would she reference that black fraternity boys raped white women while pledging. This is a racist notion, unfounded and insulting. I put the book down! Shame on the author perpetuating a myth!!

Decent story with Flaws

Didn't finish. It would be nice if stories gave ratings like movies. Too much swearing. Story just OK

Sex and Language

I find very distracting that the volume keeps changing mid sentence as if some words were re-recorded and imposed on the original recording.
There are two readers who alternate between chapters who voice both characters on that chapter. This way, Vivian and Cat have different voices and accents based on who is reading. It’s quite unpleasant.
The story is average. A light, non-demanding reading

Audio is inconsistent

An unusual plot that puts you in the mind of the criminal. Well-written characters. Good narration.

Well done

It was pretty OK. Kind of weak ending but kind of entertaining. Story had potential.
